Question about Samsung CLP-500 Laser Printer
I'm getting the message Dev. motor error from my CLP 500.
I assume this motor will need replacement. Anyone done this?
The developer drive motor is identical to the main motor so you can swap them over and see if the same error persists or if it changes. The bad news is that it's a fairly involved strip down to get to it (both motors are behind the rear cover - you'll need to open left, right and top doors and remove the top plastic with the door release button before you can start to remove the rear cover) and even with the rear cover off, IIRC you need to remove the formatter PCB and PSU. In short it's not a job for the faint-hearted!
As others have suggested, it may be a mechanical problem with the toner cartridges and this is far more likely than an electrical fault; plus easier to confirm and fix...

Take the 4 cartridges out of the printer and check each toner cartridge to see if the rollers can be rotated. If its difficult to rotate a roller, then replace the cartridge. If you have a faulty cartridge you may see that the small white wheels at the end of the roller are misalligned.
This worked for me.

The transfer belt maybe defective or run its course..end of life
go into the menu, and see what the setup tells you
