Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have a Tevion 32" LCD TV (ALCD3270). When turning the TV on from standby, the standby light flashes blue 10 times and then stays blue but the screen does not come on properly. Menu functions are not available and apart from a dark blue background there is no picture or sound.

I too have the same fault. Am a TV repair technician with some experience of LCD's but have not sorted this one!
The inverter (power supply to backlights) is working OK and the microcontroller works enough to switch in and out of standby.
Will come back here if I nut it out.
    Rob.

I have the same set (ALCD3270) with the same problem. Downloading and installing the firmware update will not fix this problem if the motherboard is faulty. I know because I have tried it. As usual with the importing suppliers retail price of a motherboard at Au$329.00 its price makes a mockery of even bothering to purchase it when the value of the TV at this stage is probably only $300 if it was still working
normally. The TV Industry has always put this roadblock in front of the average consumer so that they are dissuaded from certain types of repair, and thus driven towards making a new TV purchase. What they have never learned is that the bad taste the consumer gets from this experience all too often drives them into the camp of a competing brand. But then as they all do it and don't give a **** that in the end WE are the ones who end up getting done in the hip pocket while they just keep on flogging to the upcoming generation who are ignorant of their practices and the experiences of their forbears.

I have a 56" samsung rear projection tv that won't turn on. the red standby light is lit and when i push the power i hear two clicks and the green timer light flashes quickly then the green led stays lit...

I suspect you probably have a bad LED assembly. It could be either the red, green or blue that is bad and give you the same symptom. The problem is locating parts for it as it looks like the light engine is no longer available. I would have a technician look at the TV to verify this and what parts are needed for repair.

According to Sharp it is a software problem. Engineer came, installed software update ,10 minute job.....TV worked fine for 1/2 day unfortunately: Then images turned black and white in all channels TV turned itself off, and stanby and OPC buttons started flashing. When TV came back on its own 10 mins later , screen had 2 large square staines superimposed in image (as if it was a burnt screen)...Engineer will be back next week...all quite sad really for a new TV.....will keep u posted

I have owned a Sony rear projection TV for a little over two years. Model KP-51HW40. I have two problems. The first problem has been going on for about one year. Most of the time when, it is first turned...

Problem # 2 is a convergence issue. If you can solder, you can repair this yourself. As far as problem #1 goes, count the blinks. The set goes into standby as protection from further damage when a problem is detected. The blink count is an internal diagnostic that indicates the circuit in which the problem was detected. Report back here with the blink count if you can.
I'll look up the convergence IC numbers in the mean time.
