Hi, my husband works for mitel and has a mitel 5220 ip phone here at home which he uses when he works from home. He is away at the moment and the phone just keeps rebooting and flashing up 'fatal exception error resetting the phone'. I know nothing about this kind of thing and don't know what to do to make it work again. I have tried taking out the power and replacing but this doesn't do anything. Any help would be much appreciated.
Those are just messages about the stream sockets closing without the protocol closing the connection cleanly. What that means is that the Data network is not configured correctly, I assume somebody made a change or upgraded a network switch and didn't configure it correctly.

Make sure that it is a Dual Mode 5220. If it is you can use it as a SIP extension. It wiill say it on the back of the Mitel phone next to the 5220.
If it is a dual mode phone you can purchase a sip trunk from a provider and then would be able to use the phone.
When you boot up the phone hold the blue super key while the phone boots, hit the no softkey till you get to phone mode. Hit yes it will allow you to change the phone from minet to sip. This should get you started in the right direction.
Are you attempting to upgrade the firmware on the phone, or the phone system itself?
We have a SX-200 ICP and are currently in the process of upgrading so our teleworkers can use newer phones than the 5220's. It requires you have a current support agreement with your vendor because you have to be able to log into Mitel's Application Management Center (http://www.mitel-amc.com).
To Restore Factory Default Settings:
1. Press both Up and Down Arrow keys simultaneously while powering up the
phone. NETWORK SETTINGS? appears
2. Press NO until TOOLS & FEATURES appears and then press YES.
3. Press NO until RESTORE DEFAULTS? appears and then press YES.
4. Press CONFIRM. The phone resets with default settings.
A cordless plantronics headset will work. A plain bluetooth headset that you use on you cell phone will not work. Mitel sells a new phone with a cordless headset and handset it doesn't use bluetooth it uses dect (europeon version) much but,
I have this phone at work. There's a button that looks like an envelope. Touch that and it will prompt you through recording your voice mail. This phone also features various "away" messages so that you can record a couple different ones and then activate whichever you want depending on your day. This is also accessed through the voicemail button. Once you play around with it a little, you'll find it's a rather simple phone. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to access my voicemail from home! Good luck!
