Can i use another 4a 250v fuse for my cerwin vega LS12 if its not a (slow blow) ,and what would be the outcome

Fuses have different blow characteristics. Such to protect components differently. An extremely fast fuse would protect sensitive components like tweeters and slower fuse will allow transcients to pass and blow on long time fault. If you put a slow blow in place of fast blow, it won't blow as quickly, but it could allow the protected device to be damaged. In reverse, you put a fast blow in place of slow blow, it will blow at normal transcients and be a nuscience to always replace.
You can cross to a fuse of different manufacturer. The reliable manufacturers will have detailed datasheet and subsitute or similar fuse to the fuse you are looking for.

I was given a Cerwin Vega LW12 by a friend. It works fine for some music at any volume, but with certain types it has a popping coming out, even at low volumes. Switched speakers and still happens....

phreewillie,
If you are certain that the problem is not with the speaker(s) the problem then sounds like an issue before the amp.

Did your friend have this issue? If yes, the problem is with the built in amp/crossover. If no, there is some kind of problem in your location.

The amp will not produce the popping sound even if the the amp has a problem electronically. The problem could be improper voltage, line noise, wire resistance or a grounding issue. The first two would be eliminated by using a line conditiner with a built in surge protector. The resistance and grounding issues would be associated with the wire connecting the sub to your electronics. It could be simply the cable connecting the sub has an issue, try swapping it with one that you know works fine. Are you using in wall wiring? Try using like stated above, a short known good patch cable. Sometimes the wire of choice during a installation will not work for that amp. Try taking that in wall cable out of the loop. I have seen just this problem in the past due to the type of wire used. A low cost way to eliminate the voltage issues is to try a different source of electricity by taking the sub to a friends house and see if you can reproduce the problem there.

Cerwin-Vega 12'', no power

It should have a small fuse on the board between the transformer and the board. Check that first. If it is good see if the transformer is putting out any voltage. Two easy fixes that can be done in house...

Sub woofer cuts on and off.

I am an Electronics Tech and just finished repairing a LW12 for a customer. It also has the HUM. IF I place a finger on the RCA input and another finger on the heatsink..(black metal plate at the back) then the hum goes away. I did notice that Cerwin V maunfactured this older LW12 unit with a 2 prong cord. I personally own a newer CV 10" sub, 3-prong and has never had a problem with it and it has awesome Bass. So for my customer...I am thinking I will add a 3-prong cord. and see what happens.....
