I know what the problem is. Its a cracked gear. When you have the top open look at the big fiber gear on top. It is common for these to crack and now it is stuck. Needs a Bernina service guy to replace it. There is one more smaller fiber gear near the handwheel inside that could be cracked also.

SOURCE: old singer sewing machine (306k) motor works, belt

Apply a little singer machine oil to each of the holes along the top and in the working area next to needleplate.........rock handwheel gently and make several full rotations in each direction ......... keep at the rocking and rolling periodically over several hours if necessary....it should come good after a little patience and persistence. Do not apply too much oil, it will only make a mess. NOTE: Belt needs a little give to prevent motor overload, so do not overtighten.

Why is the wheel on the right hand side of my machine very stiff when turning

the "hand wheel" on a sewing machine is meant to only advance the mechanism far enough to thread and set the needle , the motor should be used to run the machine else wise , as its turning every thing inside the machine to keep all the functions in "TimE" as models increase in there complexity there hand wheels are harder to move as more stuff needs to be kept in "time" now , also on some models the bobbin winder is directly powered by the hand wheel , if its not in use it should be disengaged completely

The handwheel will turn manually but it will not move using the foot pedal. The sound it makes when I press on the foot pedal *sounds* like I am filling the bobbin.

Oily cotton when stitching

Oily Cotton:
1. Remove the bobbin case.
2. Wipe out the oil.
3. Bobbin case rides unto an area that looks like a race track. (Called Race). Wipe out oil.
4. After cleaning oil out take a drop and place unto race.
5. Replace bobbin. (Wipe oil if there is any.)
6. Remove oil from the needle arm. (Goes up and down holding unto the needle.)
7. Replace a small amount of oil on the needle arm.
The sewing the machine should sew very well. It may have some resistance when you turn the hand wheel by hand. Likely, this is due to the machine being new and not being broke in. Otherwise, it would need to be lubricated throughout the machine. Give it while!

Hand wheel & needle very stiff

Hai, I think your machine timing is changed. So you can't sewing properly. Please check the timing and put the oil everyday all oil parts properly.

My sewing machine will not pick up the bobbin thread

double check the timing. The hook must pick up the loop in the needle thread as it starts on its up stroke.
Remove bobbin cover, needle plate etc to expose hook. Turn hand wheel slowly towards you until needle reaches its very lowest point
then continue to turn very slowly until needle comes up about 3/16" in this position the tip of the hook should be exactly behind the needle and just above its eye

I have a Juki HZL-K85. I changed to a heavier thread for outdoor material, the thread bunched up and the machine made a crunch noise. I got the fabric free, but now the bobbin thread is not being picked...

Check the needle to see if it is bent. If not then check the needle to hook timing. Turn the hand wheel until the needle is at it's lowest position. Start to bring the needle upward. As the needle gets to the edge of the hook/bobbin race the point of the hook should pass slightly above and behind the needle. If it isn't the timing is out. I would suggest bringing it to a trusted sewing machine repair person to reset the hook timing and check for any other damage.

Brother 3022 Mechanical Problem

Make sure your needle is in correctly. Check your threading again. If that does not work, remove throat plate, install new needle, turn hand wheel until needle is at its lowest position and observe if the hook is exactly behind the eye of the needle. If that is correct then you do not have threaded correctly. If it is not then the machine needs to be re-timed.
