Start your computer in safe mode by pressing f8 repeatedly during the booting process, then check, if it boots then restore your pc to some previous date where its working fine

check it on bios whether the hdd is detecting or not, if detecting, then the problem is that your os has become corrupt, reinstall it

Will not boot

If you dont have the option to run:
"Windows XP Recovery Console"
You probably have to install windows on a second PHYSICAL drive, Disconnect the failing one first!
Reconnect the failing drive in slave mode.
1. Start/Run "cmd.exe"
2. execute "chkdsk /F /R /X D:"
3. Shutdown
4. Swap drives.
5. Start system (while praying :) )

Toshiba Satelite M100 PC notebook wont start up windows XP

This sounds like a memory problem. Download and run memtest 86, it is a small iso file that you create a bootable cd from. Run this for at least one pass.

If the memory passes boot from your xp disk and choose R to get into the repair console. Once there type the following commands

fixboot
fixmbr

then try the install again. Hope this helps

XP Downgrade

You need to start windows setup straight from cd. To do so you may need to change the boot sequence from bios. You will also need a bootable windows xp cd (not the upgrade version). Setup xp as new installation. Ensure you can get all necessary drivers and software for windows xp.

Hint: Vista works fine if it has enough ram memory, and you wont lose your valid licence and all software provided with vista.

cheers
