Question about Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 Notebook

Satellite A100 won't swich on- will be similar to A75

Power adapter is working but Laptop won't switch on in either power or battery mode

    The adapter is working & when it's on the 2 lights that come on show the power is getting through & that the battery is charged. I think it's the switch and will need a technician to fix it.

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 which was working until a week ago. Now it won't turn on with the AC power plugged in. It comes on for 1 second then turns off. Is there anyone else out there with the same problem and what is the recommended solution? Can the AC power be broken?

Remove the battery , then insert it again, then leave it for charging for some times then check

Toshiba satellite a100-153 running hot


Something is very wrong here. Does this occur when running on internal battery or only when plugged into the power adapter? At these temperatures the cooling fan should be running at full speed constantly until the temperatures fall to about 50 centigrade or lower. (dependant upon loading and CPU power consumption.) The laptop should automatically power down at the temperatures you are quoting!

My tosiba satelite a75-5209 not switch on


It could be a faulty battery. Remove the battery & try to power up the laptop.
If the laptop did not power up after removing the battery, then notice the power receptacle where you plug the power adapter's cord to the laptop. While plugging the power cord in, notice if there is a spark occurring at the power receptacle. If the spark occurs, then disconnect internal drives & connectors one at a time until subsystem with short is identified. If power input still a short with bare motherboard, replace the motherboard. If the spark did not occur, then inspect the boards for burnt or melted components, cold solder on DC jack, open connections, or unseated cards.

Battery light goes out about 10 seconds after pluged in. does not charge


There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

Will not charge


With both above posts above included I want to add my experience with 3 Toshibas.

1. The A75 series was very prone to the power supply becoming loose on the motherboard. Those who are moderately good at DIY projects can resolder this. There are good photos elsewhere to show how. A loose connector will cause the power LED on your computer to flicker, sometimes the machine will turn off, etc. because the AC supply is unpredictable. Unfortunately, Toshiba and others may sell you a NEW power supply, which then can give you a second, and different, problem. The new power supply may not produce enough AMPS for the A75

2. The A75 series is VERY energy hungry and must have a power supply of 19v and 6.3 AMPS. The amps is CRUCIAL. The newer Toshibas run on 3.4 amps and a replacement power supply of the wrong size will show a green LED for power, it will charge your Battery in the system off( i.e computer plugged in but turned off mode) but it will not allow windows to run, even though it will allow you into BIOS setup. This combination means you have to charge the battery in the OFF mode and then when the computer runs, it is actually running from the battery, not 120v AC. The battery then runs down and the sytm shuts off.

So look at the Toshiba Label on the bottom of your laptop and read the correct voltage and AMPS!!! The 6.3 AMP power supply is BIG (6.5x2.5x1.5 inches) and is available new online for about $27.00. This problem solved my power problems on both an A75-S2292 and an A25.

Laptop not running on battery


try another power supply, they can have voltage problems and still have ample voltage to run the laptop but not fully charge the battery.

Can not swich on even if the battery is ok


Remove both the AC cord and the battery for 1 minute. Then plug in AC only and see if PC will power up. If not, next connect both AC and Battery.

Be sure to press and HOLD power button for >5 seconds when powering a Laptop.

Screen black & with no power

you can follow this instruction and try to your laptop to resolved the problem.

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with Toshiba Satellite M35X and Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s still under warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you.
Problem symptoms:
  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. Toshiba Satellite M35X and Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system board with a magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because of a bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see a crack between the DC jack connector and the system board.
Here is an example of Toshiba Satellite M35X power jack. The crack occurs between the DC jack pin and the system board.

How to resolder laptop power jack yourself.
UPDATE:
Sometimes, after you replace the jack, you can see that the system board doesn’t get power at all. The battery will not charge and the power LED will not light when you plug in the AC adapter. So, here’s a possible explanation.
When a connection between the positive pin and the motherboard breaks (cracks), the power jack gets loose. You can feel it when you plug in the adapter plug. A loose power jack can damage the trace inside the hole in the system board. Take a look at the picture.
power-jack.gif As you see, the positive pin goes through the hole in the system board and you solder it on the top side. Right? What if the trace between the top side and the bottom side is broken somewhere inside the hole? I’ve seen it before a few times. In this case everything looks nice and clean on the top side. When you plug in the AC adapter, you get normal voltage readings between “+” and “-“ pins on the top side, but the power DOESN’T go to the motherboard at all, because there is no connection between the top and bottom sides. Test with a multimeter if there is a connection between the top and the bottom.
If the trace inside the hole is broken you still can fix it. You can run a wire to connect the top and the bottom sides. Be careful not to short something on the board.
Update:
Here’s another solution to fix the power jack problem, it shows how to relocate the power jack outside the laptop base. Check it out here: Toshiba Satellite A75 failed power jack workaround.
When you repair a loose power jack, it’s a good idea to check the jack on both sides of the motherboard. When you remove the top cover from a Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 laptop you can see only points where the jack is soldered to the motherboard as it shown on the second picture in this post, but you cannot see the jack itself as it shown on the first picture.
Removing the motherboard from Satellite A70/A75 laptop is a good idea because the jack itself might has a broken “+” pin, as it shown on the picture below. If the “+” broke off the base, you’ll have to replace the jack.

Toshiba Satillite A100 not powering up

again $ again try 3 or 4 time to powerin on with ac mode,if not powering on then try it in backup mode with support battery if u dont have battery backup then get a battrey from any other laptop but it must be same model if powering on then change your adapter and try again if then also not warking go to nearer vender or service center.

Toshiba Satellite L15-S104, Model PSL10U-01X02F--A COMPLETE LEMON! 2-14-08 I purchased a Toshiba laptop in May 2005 at Best Buy in Montclair, California and all was good for a short time. Less than a year later I began to have so many problems. I took laptop to Best Buy Geek Squad and the hard drive had to be replaced! I had an extended warranty, so not any cost to me. I continued to have problems with the laptop and in took my laptop back to the Geek Squad in January 2008 and was told the laptop needed a motherboard at the cost of over $600! The warranty had ended. I have called Toshiba apx 4 times and finally given to a case manager and left on hold each time from 10 to 17 minutes! I have left messages and not anyone has returned my call. I have requested that my laptop be replaced. My laptop overheats and shuts down repeatedly, the screen freezes, my sound only works 75% of the time, etc, etc. I have a stack of paperwork from the Geek Squad for numerous repairs - they've replaced everything at least once, some parts multiple times. They finally told me it was a lemon and that they were sending it in so that I could get a new lap top....6 weeks later I hadn't heard anything and called them - the usual waiting on the line, talking to 4 different people, them saying they'll call me back. A few days later I still hadn't heard back from them so I called again - same run around. They then told me that my lap top wasn't a lemon and that there was nothing they could do for me. I bought an extended warranty (3 years) and it's been in every few months - also meaning I'm without my blimmin' lap top for at least 2 weeks at a stretch. After my warranty ran out, I "gave up"...what more could I possibly do? The machine was a lemon from the start but Toshiba won't own up to anything. However, I know there was a class action law suit filed...haven't heard anything about it for the past year or so. I wouldn't touch a Toshiba with a ten foot pole. Terribly disappointed, angry and frustrated. I've lost huge amounts of data and had nothing but problems with customer service.
