Re: Filtered water quit working on my Frididaire side by...
Angelbaby, there is a couple things for you to check. Number one is to remove and reinsert the filter. I had one once where it was not exactly seated correctly and caused this problem. If that's not the case check to see that the water reservoir is not frozen. This will be behind the drawers on the refrigerator side. You can take a hair dryer and go lightly over it to melt the ice if it is in fact frozen. Finally in the back by the triple water valve is a diode on the valve harness. If this diode failed you will not get water or ice. Let's hope this is not the case and it's one of the first two senerios, Catriver...post back

The nozzles have probably become clogged with sediment over time. Soak shower head in CLR for 3 - 5 minutes to dissolve sediment. Run water. If nozzles still not free, repeat the CLR soak. If still not working then nozzle head probably needs replacing.
Note: Always make sure your filter is current if you have one. Not doing so will cause water to not despence properly
Pull the machine out and remove the lower back cover. Locate the water valve. With the water turned on and connected remove the 5/16" water line (the bigger one) and then have someone else press the water in the door. If the cylinoid is operating correctly it should spray water out.If so, you just verified that the valve and electrical portions are working properly and either the filter is bad or the resevoir, , located inside the lower refrigerator side is frozen. If no water comes out but the valve vibrates, then the valve is bad. If no water and no vibration, continue reading. With the machine plugged in but the wires that go to the valve for the dispenser off take a volt meter and place a lead to each wire and have someone press the panel in the door as if getting water. The reading should go from 0 to around 115-120 a/c.If your not getting electricity down there at anytime than thje door switch is bad.
More than likely you need a new water valve in the rear. You can test this by going to the back of the fridge and taking off the rear panel then remove the water line going under the fridge to the bottom of the door. This works great if you can get help. Just have the other person pull on the hose going in the bottom of the freezer door to help dentify the right one. Once the correct line is removed from the valve, have your teamate push the water paddle in and see if any water comes out of the valve itself where the line was. GE water valves do go bad quite often.
although you had waterto the bottom of door when disconnected, did you try to dispense water while unhooked andsee it flow??? because just unhooking it will allow the resivoir of stord water to flow out by gravity, giving false sense of water working., if indeed it did work the you have a frozen water lin within the freezer door itself, ait tricky to defrost. aside form unplugging unit and allow to thaw out, or pulling line form liner not going to be easy to thaw the line. if you indded still hear the "hum" after disconnectng water under door, then it soundsas if you have a bad water inlet valve located behind refrig where the water atteachges to the refric, no repairingthe valve it needs replacing
I've got one, and the bracket in the back that connects the motor to the long screw-crank in the floor of the ice tray broke in half, so no ice was getting pushed to the door to come out the front. Putting in a new bracket started ice coming out again.
Can you remove a line from the back rear of the unit and see if water flows there? The solenoid valve should make a solid "click" when the water lever is pushed. Any debris in the valve filter screen? See if you can reach up or look inside to see if the water lever is actually pushing the door mounted switch in, may be able to press switch with your finger if you can reach it or with a pencil, etc.
