When my Sony Bravia was installed 18 months ago the installer preset the digital channels. Yesterday Channel 2 simply disappeared off the list of preset channels. If I select Channel 2 using the remote it goes to Channel 10. All the other available channels on the list of preset channels are there, but not Channel 2.
I did use the VHS to record a program on Channel 2 around the same time Channel 2 disappeared off the television.
Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Sony BRAVIA KDL46S2010 Sound and Pix not in sync - in HDTV channels only
This is a software issue with both the TV manufacture and the cable box provider. This will only be fixed when the cable company and TV manufacture sit down and work out their problem. Some cable company has taken the first step by updating cable boxes with different software.

SOURCE: Sony Bravia does not see my digital channels
Hi buck lite,
Your cable company is telling the truth, you have digital cable.
When auto scanned for digital channels the tv is lookig for OTR(over the air) signals. These are broadcast signals you will need an antenna to receive.
Depending where you are and the type of antenna you use you probably could pick up some digital channels.
Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. Lone99star

You can repair some of these remotes. Usually the hard part is getting the cover off. they are not really made to be serviced. The problem with most all remotes that start doing what you describe is either wear or something spilled on it. You can fix it. Sony remotes may have 1 screw in the battery compartment. remove it and try sliding the front and back. If that dosen't work try prying from one side with a sharp edege. If you do manage to get it open take the PC board out. You will see a rubber like membrane that lays against the board. Try cleaning that with a qtip and rubbing alcahol. Then clean the PC board the same way especially where the pads of rubber contact the board. Make sure it's completely dry and snap it back together. If it works better good, if not the pads are to worn and you just have to replace. Good Luck.

For tuner problems, especially the digital channels, you should check for a TV firmware update at www.sonystyle.com. I was having some strange loss of digital channels on our 40" Bravia, starting with channels only appearing for a second before the screen produced a 'No Signal' message. After we tried the automatic retuning, then we could not even get the one second signal. None of this appeared on the description of the download. However, we downloaded the patch to our PC, loaded the file (19 MB) onto a small flash drive, which we then used to upgrade the firmware in the TV. All our digital tuner problems disappeared!!
SOURCE: TV Cable card slot loses signal immediately after channel find
THis is not a solution but a similiar issue. I have had a scientific Atlantia Cable card with comcast for 3 years no problems at all. Spent the entire day trying to switch to Verizon today. The signal comes across for about 10 seconds, pixelates and then fails. This happen after every start. We have checked the lines, tried 2 cards and reduce the signal. We gave up for today- installed the old Scientic Atlantic, reassigned it to comcast and all works fine Any and ALL suggestions are most welcome Thanks

Normally, I would just say go to the menu and add the channel, however the fact that you cannot direct tune the channel leads me to believe there is more going on here. What I would do is a factory reset and reprogram all channels and see if it works. To to a factory reset, perform the following steps:
With the television on (and with the factory remote, not any other remote)
Hold down the up button on the remote and press the power button on the TV. The TV should take a moment and then power back on and ask you what language you want to use. If it does not do this, try the procedure again, making sure that you hold down the up button while pressing the power on the TV. After you have done this the TV should ask you if you want to search for channels (after you have selected a language). Let me know if this works.
