Let it start in safe mode, Once it boots up click Start/Programs/ and
look for the RUN prompt. It might be under the Accessories folder.
Once you get RUN to open type msconfig and press OK.
When the System Configuration window opens Click on the "Boot.ini" tab
at the top and make sure the /SAFEBOOT option is not selected. If it is,
remove the check mark then hit OK. Reboot and see if it goes to
normal.
AHHHHH WINDOWS WELL WHATS NEW!!!!! SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO REINSTALL YOUR VIDEO DRIVERS IF THAT DON'T WORK TRY REINSTALLING WINDOWS BUT FIRST GO TO SAFE MODE AN SAVE YOUR STUFF DOC,MUSIC,BOOKMARKS,ALL THAT STUFF,IF THAT DON'T WORK CHECK YOUR BIOS SETTINGS GOOD LUCK
viruses often plant themselves firmly in the system restore files. They could also be preventing you from executing it. If you have "rogue programs" a system restore almost never works. You need to either clean the rogue programs in safe mode or backup your files and reinstall from scratch.
Two to three hours is a long time! It sounds like your hard drive is getting ready to crash.
If your computer is running, click Start and, in the search box, type
eventvwr
and press enter. (If you have XP, click Start -> Run and type eventvwr).
Under Windows Logs, click System. On the right side, click Source. All the events will sort by source. Scan the list for any "disk" errors. If you are getting disk errors, your hard drive is crashing. You should either take your computer to a competent professional to get the hard drive imaged, or purchase a new hard drive and do the imaging.
Okay, easiest first. In Safe Mode, your sound won't work. Safe Mode means only enough drivers to make your PC more than a doorstop get loaded, so that's okay.
Second, if it boots to Safe Mode without difficulty, try running System Restore in System Tools. Go back to some date before when your issue started. That should get you going. Don't worry, your data files will not be affected in System Restore. I hope this helps.
