Question about Poulan Garden

1 Answer

Poulan 245a hard to start and keep running.

I have a Poulan 245a chain saw, its a 72 or 74 cc and is very strong motor. However, the engine is hard to start and cuts off after some work about 15 min of work. I cannot find a user guide for it. What could be the problem. I have replaced the carb and put a carb kit on it. I was told to check the exhaust port for blockage. My concern is the points and condenser. It does not have a primer bulb for the carb.

SOURCE: Just replaced fuel lines and

Line from fuel filter goes directly into the inlet of the carburetor and the line from the snap in bulb that is marked "in" attaches to the other outlet connector on the carb. Last is the long side of the bulb goes to the return on the gas tank. The snap in bulb sucks the gas but not directly from the filter hose, it does this through the carb as if it were trying to not only **** in the fuel but also removing the air trapped in the carb. You'll notice that the bulb has a **** side and a discharge side, and the **** side goes directly to the carb outlet connector. I tried to make this a clear as possible, and I hope it helps.

I can start my Poulan 2000 16" chain saw but it

If the saw is brand new, take it into a service dealer for a carb adjustment (covered under the warranty). This sounds like it is your issue and unfortunately, you cannot correct it yourself because it requires a special tool.
As for you manual, it is located at the link below http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/NOUS/NOUS2006/NOUS2006_545137248.pdf

Have 60 lbs compression is this low , poulan chain saw mod p3314

60psi hmmmmm??? it wont even start up on that?? yes it is very low
most engines run on about 120 to 180psi and the 120psi end being low! how did you test this presher??? you need a good true screw in gage and a very strong swing to build the presher up a push in gage is usless and a soft pull wont build the presher up,,,it dont realy matter how big the engine is or how many cc's it is it still needs to get to 120psi to start and run well,,,,me thinks you may need a set of piston rings fitted to this engine just to run it up,

Poulan saw wont run

Clean the muffler spark arrestor screen and check the cylinder port for carbon build-up at the upper edge. Try presetting both carburetor H and L adjustments (from lightly CW stops) 1-1/2 turns CCW each. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Pull the throttle wide open and adjust H CW until the engine speed increases, but still 4-stroking. Correct setting is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Allow to idle and adjust L for smoother running, yet allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Set idle speed to keep the engine running, but doesn't try to move the chain. You may have to look closer at your carburetor if the above doesn't help. Go to:
http://www.drystacked.com
for an excellent article (but poor pix) on Walbro carburetors, but related to most all 2-stroke carburetors. Hope this helps!
