Question about Averatec Computers & Internet
It doesn't even appear in the device manager. Apparently the computer was updated to Windows 7 from Vista and I've been told that might be the problem, but how do I fix it?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You can try to install Webcam driver. You've not mentioned your OS; i think you use Windows 7. But HP only support Vista. You can give a try to download and install Vista driver. In most cases it solves the problem.
Here is the links for Vista 64 bit Webcam driver:
Alternatively, you can solve the driver problem by installing HP Software Update

That's a registry fault and you have to go to your device manager. Ensure the device is set as active and run the system troubleshooter to ensure none of the dll's in the driver base have been corrupted.

Try uninstalling the webcam restart your computer, reinstall the webcam with the single original driver WITHOUT any updates. If that does'nt fix it, the webcam may have went out or a sevice may have been turned off somehow.Sounds like the webcam went out or has become disconnected in some way or a corrupted driver. Also remember to, VISTA sucks

Most likely you have another chat program using the camera. Right click on the icons in the systray next to the clock and exit programs. After exiting each program, try the camera again. The last program you exit before the camera is the one causing the problem. Restart the computer and right click on that program and try and set it to not start when the Windows starts.

Tips for a great answer:
software if you dont have the driver you will need to download one here rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours
It might take some time being a freeware driver solution
note: it will find all of your outdated drivers
this is a free driver solutions
This will automatically search for and find the correct driver
you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you
want to restart or make a system restore point click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated
Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right.
But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date.
But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing.
Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10).
Hope this helps.
