Whirlpool LE5760XSWO dryer belt or bearing

My Whirlpool LE5760XSWO dryer runs, but either the belt is slipping and needs replace or the bearings have gone bad causing the belt to slip - how do I tell if it's the bearing and not the belt?

after further research, I'm guessing it's the tensioner (because the tub still turns, but you can smell the belt slipping and it makes a horrible noise) or the or drum roller.

I'm at a point where I need to fish or cut bait - any idea how expensive and how much labor is involved if it's a tensioner (I've changed them on a automobile before) or a drum roller - I have no clue what's involved with a roller?

SOURCE: how do you determine if the motor is bad on gew9200l duet dryer

Check the amperage withe the heat off is one way. Another is to unplug dryer and feel the moter shaft for shaft play or sloppy movement. Amprege to the motor can also be checked. Sometimes it's not the motor but where the drum attaches in rear and the rollers the drum.

If you are comfortable useing a volt meter and a ohm meter I can walk you throught the steps otherwise you need to call a repairman, If you are not getting any heat and the tumbler is turning it is possible the element is bad again only a test meter can tell for sure or you can take the dryer apart and look at the element to see if it is broken make sure the power is turned off at the breaker first also unplug the dryer.

SOURCE: have to replace broken belt on a whirlpool awz

Double the belt and slide it between the two arms of the tension pulley. Then slip the belt over the drive motor pulley. The belt will be pushing against the tension pulley from underneath.

Determine if access to motor is from front or rear. Remove securing screws, remove panel and observe motor. Is the pulley spinning? If not, the start/run capapcitor may have failed- it looks like a small shiney can (about the size of a pack of cigarettes) and generally has two white wires going to it. Replace. With unit UNPLUGGED, grasp the pulley of the motor and turn it. Does it turn freely? if not, bearings are frozen and you may have to replace motor. If motor shaft is turning, then check belt. Is it broken or slipping? if so replace, if not, check tub and see if it moves freely on it's felt bearings. If not, check two support rollers toward back of unit. Are they intact and moving freely? If not replace.

Dryer makes loud grinding noise when you cut it on

The dryers drum runs off a belt as you may know to spin it around to dry clothes. This belt is attached to a belt tensioner also to keep the belt snug. This tensioner has a roller with a bearing in the middle of it. Most bearings are made of brass and wear out causing it to grind
I would replace the belt & tensioner pulley as a unit. Sears will have these two parts selling together as a kit. Go online to view with your make and model number to see

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Thanks for using FixYa!

Loud noices when running, some burned rubber smell

The only rubber part is the belt that drives the drum around. The belt rides on a tensioner which has a pulley on it with a bearing built into it. When the bearing goes bad the pulley will not turn freely causing the belt to get hot and smell. Its time for a new pully and bearing assembly for your dryer

The dryer squeaks like a belt is slipping intermittently. I checked the belt and it seems to be OK. Do I need a new belt or what?

Belt is probably ok. ... check the front 'bearing' which is usually felt and bears on the front door. You can clean it - replace it - or turn up the radio.

If this pleases you, we volunteers are paid with 'bragging rights' Please leave positive comments.

thanks

Squeeks loadly when running

The drum belt is slipping or a support wheel bearing is worn.  Spray some belt dressing on the belt or replace the belt.  Lubricate the wheel bearing or replace it.  It is also possible that the seal between the drum and the housing (at the back) is worn and the drum is rubbing metal-to-metal on the housing.

Whirlpool dryer drum making noise

window.google_render_ad();There are many places & parts that could be causing your Whirlpool dryer to be noisy. To find out what is causing the noises, you need to find out where are the noises coming from.
Start the dryer and let it run for a while and listen to try to pinpoint where in the dryer the noises is coming from. Once you have an idea of the area, you will need to disconnect the dryer from the wall outlet and take the dryer apart.
Below you will find the parts that you need to check when your dryer is noisy.
The drum baffles:

The drum baffles are use to tumble the clothes inside of the drum, in other words, the baffles job is to separate the pieces of laundry as the drum turns.
When the dryer is getting older and if you use the dryer a lot, the drum baffles holding screws will become loose. Loose drum baffles will cause noises. All you need to do, is to open the top panel and tighten the drum baffles holding screws.
The drum support rollers:

These dryers uses four drum support rollers, tow on the front and two on the rear. The job of the drum support rollers is to keep the drum tumbling smooth.
When the grease on one of the rollers dry out, the roller start to make squeaking noises and the roller bearing will start to wear out until the bearing on the roller is gone. When the bearing on the roller is gone, the noise will change from squeaking to a clanking noise.
The blower wheel:

The blower wheel is use to circulate the air inside of the dryer drum. The most common Whirlpool blower noises are cause by something falling inside of the blower housing and hitting the blower when the motor runs.
The Idler pulley:

The Idler pulley is use to apply the necessary tension on the belt. There are two types of idler pulleys, the pulley with the wheel and the pulley with the teflon slide. A bad idler pulley could cause a Whirlpool dryer to be noisy.
The drive motor:

Worn out bearings on the motor will cause the motor to run kind of noisy. When the motor starts making noises, the solution to this problem is to replace the motor.
The belt:

The belt on most dryers is only about1/4 inch wide. These belts work very hard making the drum tumble. When the belt stretch just 1/2 inch more that it supposed to, the belt will start slipping and that could cause your Whirlpool dryer to be noisy.
As you could see, there are a lot of parts that could become noisy in your dryer. When your dryer starts making noises, make sure to check it out before it gets worse.
