Question about Televison & Video
That could be the backlight inverter which has failed. Try shinning a bright light into the screen while the sound is running and see if you can see a very dim picture, If so its the inverter which has failed and you can get replacement inverter from www.tvrepairworld.com

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
Here's a link to this great service

i've just some digging around and found that you can access a service menu and perform a reset which sorted the issue for me.
Access the service menu by pressing, in order, whilst the tv is in stand-by mode:
when the tv comes back on you will have a service menu; select option 12 (reset) the tv will then switch off.
this will reset your TV back to factory defaults.
turn tv back on and you should be prompted to go through the plug and play setup again - go through everything and then all should start working OK (it did for me)
