JBL Basswave Sub - Volume EXTREMELY Low

My Basswave subwoofer recently stopped functioning correctly. It will turn on, but the sound is so quiet that it can only be heard if I turn off all the other speakers and put my ear right next to it. It was a gradual process, and it just started getting quieter and quieter until it got to this point..I think one (or more) of the electrical components went out (a capacitor or something), but I'm not skilled enough to do all the necessary tests. I do have some electronics experience though, and could fix it if I knew what to replace. Please help. The service manual can be found here: http://www.diysubwoofers.org/projects/other/basswave/BASSWAVE.pdf Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

SOURCE: SubWoofer

Sounds like your original and this sub have bad amps. The amp for the sub is not the same as the amp for the other speakers. The old unit has a dead amp and this new one is on the way out. (Pulling too much current on high bass)

SOURCE: subwoofer works at high volume, doesnt work at low volume

You had the settings set incorrectly and overdrove it. The voice coil leads are burn't open. If you look at the little flexible braids by the terminals I'll bet they are black/brown and maybe even burn't in half. It's toast.

SOURCE: power sub plate amp replacement

Why not try to find a used working similar model sub instead of replacing the amp? any amp different than the one built in will provide a sligtly different sound.

JBL PB10 subwoofer sounds distorted and lights on the front flash

More likely to be the Class D power amp module, but you should look through the service manual to make sure all the parts are installed correctly. My PB10 AMP module went out and you cannot get one anymore.

I purchased a JBL PB12 (120v) subwoofer from a friend. It worked excellent for a month or so, but completely went on the fritz yesterday. Whenever I turn it on, I get a loud whining noise, that starts high...

It sounds like something on your main board of your amp is going out. It is most likely the finals, or as you said a capacitor. Test the port with another speaker, if al is well then the wooferis bad. if not you will have to go inside the amp for repair. Depending on the brand it can be a little complicated. Try and narror it down to the proper componet, post back the results and we will go from there. Also is this sound comming from all channels or just the woofer?

Amp is on, but sub wont produce any bass

Make sure the subwoofer is set to low frequency, make sure subwoofer and bass are enabled on the headdeck. Make sure the gain is turned up on the amp, make sure the rcas haven't come out of the back of the head deck.

JBL Subwoofer - Intermittent operation

Sometimes bad caps show a lifting or rounding of the top of the cap, sometimes this top will split from heat and pressure and sometimes it will not show any sign of damage but will be dry inside and its capacitance value will drop to a very low value. Replace the big power supply caps and test again. Get the same size, value and voltage rating. You can go higher on voltage rating and a bit on value. Getting a similar size or something that will fit in the same space is important also.

Pb12 makes thumping sound after warming up

Hello there..Thats normal only if your sub volume and the pre amp is turned up..Your amp is the cause of the speaker jump..Turn amp volume sub level down a few and check your wire from sub to amp..If all of that is good is a normal operation for pre amp warm up in sub if level is turn to max..Try unplugging amp freom sub then turn sub on stand alone(just sub outlet plugged in and no wires from base amp plugged in..If sub stops the its the amp making the problem..If it still is there then the pre amp is either dusty on inside or the outlet plug that it is plugged in doesnt have a good ground..Hope these help to solve your problem..Have a great day...

Subwoofer Wont Work

If the connections are correct...?
then it doesn't sound like theres a problem with the amp.

make sure the amp is not to powerful for the sub?
eg: 1000w amp, 500w sub.

Sounds stupid but it happens.

make sure the gain / volume is not too high!

if your BMW has a totally sealed, metal boot area this doesn't help.
