I have a Kirby G5 and the bag got too full, didn't break open but the beater bar is not at all powerful, doesn't even leave any mark on my semi sag rug. The suction is ok with the regular hose. Brought it to a vac place and they said they tuned it up but I don't see any difference. Could use some help

Kirby motors are "hard to kill". Did they tell you what indicated that motor is about to go "kaput"?

If you are the original owner, you can send it to Kirby rebuild and have them rebuild it.For a non-original,it is around $300.They go thru it,replace the parts needing replaced, buff the metal covers to remove the blemishes, and send it back to you.It will look and operate as it did when you first purchased it.Call Kirby Rebuild in Cleveland,Ohio.

Riccar model 8625 need compatible repalcement motor for original Ametek # 117405-00 12 amp no longer available ?

You can likely get any 8000 series motor to fit but there are different motors and you really need to talk to a qualified trained Riccar repair technician to determine the proper motor for your model. Your model is almost 30 years old and a newer motor would be difficult for the average homeowner to safely install. You were given good advice because they told you to discuss it with a qualified retailer for the proper way to safely get your vacuum running again. If done properly there could be many more years of usable service left I your old vacuum. If done wrong it could cause damage to the motor or other parts of the vacuum or even cause a fire, death or injury.

My vacuum cleaner will run for a few minutes and then shuts off. The plug light on the panel blinks. I thought the motor was shut, but after a long time it will turn on again, but again, only for a few...

I know nothing about your particular vacuum, but many vacuum cleaners these days have
safety cut out's, which causes the motor to do exactly what you describe. Sadly blockages, faulty switches, over stretched cables, carbon brushes etc could also give similar symptoms, so sounds like a job for the repairer on this occasion. Get a quote first if you can.

Hi there--My G5 had a burning smell and when I took it in to be looked at I was quoted R1800-00 as I was told it needs a service and then certain repairs.I am dissapointed as this is very expensive and I...

Hi Judy, Youmust have asked what was the burnt component. If this was the motor then there is no chance of a cheape service but if this was a the surge capacitor then it is just a easy job to replace.
So Whenever there is an inspection please ask for the correct technical fault, the details of repair( if replaced or repaired) warranty on work .
Taking it to several place may finally end up tampering the machine. So the known person can be believed in to prove himself.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when the machine is locked upright. When you release the head and pull the handle back this dial should mopve forward to the on position. Once here, the brush bar should turn.

If this doesnt resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kirby G5 vacuum

check the cord. see if there are any frays. or broken spots. usually it is one of 3 things. 1, faulty electric cord. 2. the attachment or floor nozzle not being properly attached( kind of a duh issue LOL)
3. a faulty switch assy. the switch can be kind of a bear to replace. I hope it is the cord. if not i would take it to a kirby repair person, because it is very easy to damage the motor assy when replacing a kirby switch. trust me i have damaged a few learning how to do it
