The XSi is not weather sealed like the 580ex II and is suseptable to liquid damage. Most cameras will take a few sprinkles and won't have a problem, but if the liquid got into the main body it might have issues. The top of the camera around the hotshoe is particularly sensitive.
I would doubt it could be self repaired. Take it to a liscensed repairer to have it looked at.
The autofocus mechanism on some lenses can be damaged if you manually focus while the camera is attempting to autofocus. Basically, you would be working against the motor and gears.
There is no need to download software before using the camera, however, I would suggest going to Canon's website and downloading the firmware upgrades for it. Here's the link:

Hope this helps!
The EOS 40D does not have a transmitter built in. The remote flash units must be set to "Slave" and the on-camera external flash unit (eg Speedlite 580EX) or transmitter (ST-E2) set to "Master". Note that the Speedlite 430EX doesn't have the function to act as Master and you need a minimum or the 580EX or a ST-E2 speedlite transmitter (or similar) as Master/s.
push the flash into its resting place with a little pressure, turn unit over, take an image requiring flash while pushing on the flash and then quickly release the flash. something is likely broken and may clear out when camera in alternate position. otherwise, off to service. don't force it. good luck mark
use more light:)
its very normal that it does that. it dosent get enough light so it
cant focus. the only way it can autofocus is that it stobes the flash
to adjust the focus automaticly. use an external flash like 580EX and u
will get an focus asisten thru a red grid throne by the flash unit.
check your firmware version and update if necessary. Usually you get the "busy" message when your camera is writing to the card and it's possible the card isn't quite right - a format should fix it. Alternatately you might try a different CF card to see if the problem goes away. Good luck!
