Try this:Shut everything down, plug in the external monitor then turn the monitor on and only in the end turn the laptop on.

My laptop will turn on and then just go to a blank screen :(

Could be an issue with the operating system. When your machine boots are you able to press F2 to get into system BIOS?

If you have one, try hooking up your laptop to a external monitor .. This is just to eliminate that it's an issue with your video.

If it work via external monitor, then it could be the display on your laptop is has gone bad.

Laptop with white stripe down centre of screen

It is either the lcd panel OR the video card / motherboard or it could just be a completly bad driver.
If you turn it on and hit f2 or f8 does it appear in this screens?

If not, it is a bad driver.

If a bad driver, turn on hit f8, choose low video resolution mode, surf to your manufacturers website, download, install and reboot.

Try display to an external monitor, if the line appears on the external monitor, the issue is a bad video card.

you will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection

click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system you should a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on

the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes

If the issue does NOT appear on the external monitor, the issue is the lcd panel.

Hope this helps

Cant make external monitor run from laptop top projector or LCD via VGA or Component in

The function key to toggle your external monitor may have the face of a monitor printed on it. If the color of the printed monitor is not the same as the majority of the printed characters on your key board, it is most likely used in combination with the Ctrl key or maybe a proprietary "Func" (function?) key. If you don't have a function key to toggle the external monitor on/off, or if it does not respond, check your system's bios to ensure the external monitor function is enabled.

Operating system not found on any devices

well, it probably doesn't recognise that you have an operating system (if you do) because of possibly a corrupted installation...try reinstalling windows on your harddrive, but it's recommended to format anything on your harddrive before you reinstall windows....if you need to backup what you have on your harddrive, you could buy a casing for it so that you can make it external.
