If the receiver functions normally otherwise, there is a problem with the microprocessor IC(the computer within your receiver) There are a minimum of 4 - 5 such ICs in your unit. The main micro controls the AC relay, and the display micro, receives your command, via the buttons on your unit, or commands from your remote, which in turn, tells the main micro to shut off the power. There is a 10% chance that the AC relay itself is shorted(by arcing), but I've never seen one during my time working for Pioneer, and only seen a handful in my 31 other years of service. I worked for Pioneer when this unit came out. If you're interested in having the unit repaired, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com, and contact me through the contact page. Thank you.

I also have the VSX D412 and DirectTV. My DirectTV remote controls the D412 fine, but I did have the same problem you're experiecing with a Sylvania flat screen that the remote wouldn't operate. I corrected my problem by turning the TV off, then back on using the TV's remote, then telling the DirectTV system that I didn't know the model number and let the system search for the code. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Pioneer VSX-D412 AMP-ERR message.

Hello,
The AMP-ERR message in many Pioneer Receivers is caused by some DC in the output. The microprocessor then issues the warning and shuts the unit off. It is definitely not a relay switch. It could be the amplifier power pack, i.e. PAC011A or similar that is faulty or something else. Not easy to repair for the non- experienced DIY.

Good luck

I have a Pioneer VSX-D412 reciever, and connot get my b channel to work. Only my A channel works, and I'd like to get both or all 5.1 working. And no I don't have the manual for the system.

In case you didn't see this on the other post, it is not the function of unpaid Fixya Experts to do the web searches for or read the manuals to those who can do it themselves. Most questions submitted to us would find answers immediately if they were typed directly into a search engine.

If you don't have the manual I recommend you get it. There may be other questions. A search for "Pioneer VSX-D412 manual" finds it.

What sources fail. How is it with test tones? have you isolated (swapped) the speakers?

Here is the service manual if you should ever need it. http://www.kallhovde.com/pioneer/tricomp/Audio/VSX/VSX-D412_RRV2727.pdf

Can I use my Pioneer VSX-D412 receiver to hook up my surround system to my new Samsung HDTV?

Yes, both receiver and tv have optical/digital connectors, or alternatively, the S-video connector. The Pioneer will decode the compressed 5.1 signal coming from the tv unit.

Sub woofer

Hello,
The subwoofer is totally independent from your Pioneer VSX-D412. You can check if it works like you did with a finger on the hot point of the RCA cable (not very good test, as you will hear noise and can't say if that means it works OK) or better connect a known receiver to the speaker connections in the sub and test to see if it’s working properly.
Regarding the receiver, you may not have enabled the VSX to output to the sub. Read the manual on how to check for that. Only Dolby Digital 5.1 signals will allow the sub out, in a receiver of this level. It normally will not let you use the sub in stereo mode. Some more complex units will allow you that, but I believe not this model.
Good luck
