Question about ASUS A7V8X-MX Motherboard
From manual to A7V8X-MX I know that this motherboard supports up to 2GB RAM (PC2700/2100/1600 DDR SDRAM DIMMs, non-ECC). I have 2x 1GB PC2700 in 2 slots. Unfortunatelly it recognizes only 1GB. Always only one from this two, doesn't metter in which slot. Funny fact is that if I have 1x 1GB + 1x 256MB in slots it recognizes RAMs properly. It's my second motherboard (exactly the same model) with this problem. What should I do? Please help me!
Sounds like you have run into a compatibility problem between your RAM and motherboard. These kinds of problems have been very common and that is why most motherboards have a supported memory list. Usually if the RAM does not work properly you can try reversing the slots that they are plugged into and make sure that your motherboard is set for the proper voltage and speed for the RAM. If it still does not work then you would most likely need either different RAM or a different motherboard.

SOURCE: ASUS A7V8X hangs @ splash screen
Just because an installation may hang does not mean the board is dead. If possible I would connect the hard drive into another PC and check for a virus. While in another pc you can remove important data from the drive & copy to a CD/DVD. Than download the drives Mfg's drive software setup program that will run in Dos mode from a diskett. Reformat the drive and install a fresh copy of windows. You might find that is the only problem. Xp does not always install correctly. There may be a software or hard ware making windows hang.
