This is a very simple repair. I'm surprised at the cost of the labor you were quoted. An experienced technician can replace one of these latches in 30 minutes or less.

An alternate method of the replacing the latch is the remove the top panel of the washer and work down through the top. Due to variations in design features between models, this isn't always possible. If you want to remove the top panel, just locate and remove the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. If you have access the latch assembly from the top, you can attempt the repair using this method.

Mine has done the same thing. The part (door catch) is easy to fix yourself. If you contact a local appliance parts store in your area and give them your model number they can order a new one. The part was only $4.76 + tax for me. You can pop the old one out with a putty knife and the new one, you just press in. Very glad that I had an appliance company that HONESTLY told me that this was something I could do myself. Good luck!
