SOURCE: Capillary tube replacement

The True TSSU-60-16 uses an oversized (134A) refrigeration system with air flow directed at the pans.... if the capillary tube is plugged it will NOT cool at all.. most of the time a restriction (plug) is at the drier where the capillary tube goes into it.. as it is smallest passage in the system...hope it helps

Replace gdm capillary tubes

Shouldn't normally need replacing. Reclaim the gas, cut the capillary end at the drier, and force dry nitrogen thrugh the suction side to clear any blockage in the capillary. Fit a new drier, braze the capillary end and vacuum the system before regassing

How do you move a Franklin FCD400 VW refrigerator? does it has to be up right all the time?

If possible any refrigerator should be moved in the upright position. The reason for keeping it up right is so that you do not get system oil in the freon drier. If you absolutely have to move it in a horizontal position DO NOT start the unit for about 2 hours so that any oil that migrated into the coolant plumbing and freon drier will gravity drain back into the compressor. If possible position the unit so that the freon drier is above the compressor when the unit is horizontal. The freon drier will have a capillary tube and 2 copper lines on it.

Why does the main frigerant line on the compressor freeze up

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

There are a few things that will cause the main line to freeze. The most common reason is a restriction in the capillary tube off of the drier. A tiny speck of internal system debris blocks the capiliary tube and the main line freezes. You can try and clear the debris by fist making sure the compressor is off for about 15 minutes so the system equalizes then use a hammer handle to strike the drier while holding a block of wood against the driner to keep it from moving substantially. Mind you the restriction can also be on the evaporator coil connection end of the capillary tube. This one you can do little about other than change the capillary tube.
Here is a picture of a refrigerant drier: If there is a clog it will be on the small tube side of the drier. Do NOT strike the drier in the small tube area. Strike it on the main body only. After SEVERAL strikes of the drier main body (hammer handle to the body) re-start the unit. If it freezes again the 2nd reason for the line to freeze is too much coolant (recent service would be the only reason for too much coolant unless it has done this since new).
The 3rd reason... would be poor airflow across the condenser coils. (Lint build up or fan not working)

These are the main reasons for the 1/4 inch high pressure coolant line to freeze up. Just note that anytime the system is opened it has to pumped into a vacuum for 30 minutes before being re-charged with coolant.

Thanks for choosig FixYa,

Al aluminium condenser life time

Both aluminum and copper coils should last the life of the air conditioner. What really determines the life of the unit is the compressor. You could conceivably keep a condensing unit working indefinitely, but the number of service calls, the difficulty in finding replacement parts for an older unit, and the increased energy efficiency for a new unit will make it worth your while to replace it.

My 40 l does not wan to keep stuff cold teh motor kicks in only mometarily, can it be in need of a gas refill and does it ide normal aircon gas? It can get cold by itself but if you stick it with drinks...

If The motor is switching on for short periods, you either have a faulty compressor or a blockage. My money is on a blockage. Once cover is removed to allow you to see the compressor, look for a small fat copper tube that has a small 1/4 inch copper pipe on one side and a thin capillary tube connected on the other side DRIER). Flex this very thin pipe connected to the small fat tube(DRIER) untill it breaks.Gas will come out. Wait untill all gas is out then reswitch on and see if compressor still continues to switch off on short intervals. If it can run for at least 1 min without switching off, then get a Refr.Tech to come and replace drier and regas unit.

Ac capillary tubes

Sounds like you have a clogged cap tube. Yes they should both be sweating, I would expect your low side pressure to be lower though unless it is real hot in the camper. You can replace the tube but make sure what goes in is the same diameter and length because that is all engineered for proper metering into the evaporator.
