Question about HP Computers & Internet

Osd volume control won't go away

Monitor volume osd suddenly appeared dead center in the middle of the screen and won't go away, only button that works is the power button. holding down buttons on monitor for menu just makes blue power button flicker. simultaniously holding down menu and selct button brings up a monitor check sum dialog, then starts adjusting the colors by itself. I have never used the speakers built into the monitor. I somehow managed to change the display language to Chinese. I have sometimes managed to bring up the menu, but the up/down arrows are of no use..osd just does whatever it wants to do. I haven't had any previous trouble with this 4 year old monitor besides some annoying vertical lines on the side of my screen

I've never seen any mention of the monitor being locked, and have tried all the solutions presented on this site. short of opening up the monitor housing physically

I thought maybe I had the problem solved by connecting another computer to the second hdmi input on the monitor, but after thirty minutes the volume control osd has reappeared. argh!

Bad switch i monitor.
fix switch
or new monitor.
its just a switch, it closes and OSD pops. on demand by said switch, OSD is a timing processor in the display that has the OSD code in it , "program"

Let's work with FM as that is ONboard and can't be connected wrong. Does THAT work?

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

How do I remove 'OSD LOCKOUT' from my monitor/screen?

Try holding the power button or the menu button of the monitor for about 5 - 10 seconds. This should remove the OSD Lockout message. Consult your monitor's reference manual if you still have problems.

OSD lock - I think

This is for Viewsonic LCD, but it's probly pretty similar for you...

OSD and Power Button Lock Modes
OSD Lock This mode locks all current control settings and prevents access to
the control menus until this mode is unlocked.
? OSD Lock: Press and hold [1] and the up arrow for 10 seconds. If any
buttons are pressed the message OSD Locked will display for 5 seconds.
? OSD Unlock: Press and hold [1] and the up arrow again for 10 seconds.
