SOURCE: mic input

have seen a couple of these cameras with this problem.  a defective board inside the camera is the culprit. the board itself costs around $500 plus the labor to replace it.

SOURCE: Can you get an adapter

What I think you are looking for is an XLR to 1/4" adapter. This will let you plug a standard mic cable into a line in or 1/4" channel. You can find them online pretty easliy if you search xlr to 1/4 adapter.

Hope this helps!

Help with microphone

This doesn't sound good...mic cartridges are pretty fragile and is why I recommend buying quality mic's so that a few "drops" won't change the sound. That being said, the Sen MD431 is over $400 which should mean either you gave it one heck of an impact, or the mic has a manufacturing defect. Try returning for factory service BUT request an estimate B-4 repair.

Sennheiser md 42 microphone not being picked up on camcorder help please.

This would require a special cable to work. The mic is MONOAURAL with BALANCED output and the camera is STEREO input. This means a special cable is needed and you would probably have to make it yourself as I haven't seen one on the market.Pin 2 of the XLR of the mic would go to BOTH the tip and ring of the plug into the camera. Both pins 1 and 3 of the XLR at the mic would tie to the sleeve of the plug to the camera. If you tried an XLR to 1/8 adapter, no audio would be heard other than from the buillt in mic.

How do i get levels from my g track mic im using cubase le 5 i only get one side level how do i fix this issue?

The mic is only on the Left channel, and instrument input is on the Right channel. So in Cubase you need to select only the Left channel in your first track, and then only the Right channel in your second track, and then you can record Vocals and Instrument at the same time on 2 different tracks.

My MD 421 suddenly has no high end. Sounds muffled and distorts when I yell into it.

Check the cable. It maybe damaged. Check your phantom power. If your going to yell into the mic...Turn the input gain down to avoid initial distortion. Not sure of your recording setup, but everything in the chain input to output is key.
You can probably assume the mic to be damaged if these things dont check out.
I have a MD 421.

Sound only comes through one channel, have you any idea why? Norman Bevan

Most likely there is a broken wire inside the mic. You'll have to disassemble it to fix it, and it's not what I would call an easy job. Get a tech to help you, if you can. Chances are that it's just a wire that's broken and needs resoldering.
Also, on the following page, they talk about determining whether the problem is with the mic or headset, which should always be done first.
Sennheiser recommends sending it in for repair, and here's their site:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

NT1-A just stopped working, Any ideas?

It could be caused by a range of things. but before blaming the mic, try a few things first.

To test it is actually the mic that is broken, and not any of your other gear, try using your current set up with another condenser mic. If this works, your mic is broken.

If you dont have another condeser mic available to you, try, one by one, replacing the cable, and changing the input channel on your mixer/interface.

When you try a different channel, choose an input that is on a different Phantom selector than your current one (most mixers/interfaces of 8+ channels will let you apply phantom to a group of channels, instead of all). If your mic works then, it could be an issue with your mixer's phantom power.

If all the above fails, then you should still be covered by Rode's 10 year warranty, provided it is not caused by missuse/misshandling (http://www.rodemic.com/warranty.php).

Mono

Hello sir/maam, most (almost all) mic are mono, and the microphone mixer circuit splits the signal to two channel left and right, and fed to two amplifiers, then to two speakers. IF by any chance only mono, we need to trace the path where the mic signal is fed, and where the signal dissappeared, check also your balance control.

If your mic mixer circuit is designed for one channel, contact your local tech to check out or make connection to both channel.

Recording issues

My first guess would be that the minidisc player does not provide enough power for the mic. I believe Sony makes an external battery pack to compensate for these problems. Hope this helps!
