Thanks for the help...my dad put diesil in the engine instead of unleaded fuel im not sure if this caused the problem, yes the oil has been changed recentley, the engine is a pull start it was working fine then we topped it up with the wrong fuel and a few mins later it cut out. it hasnt seized just wont fire up. i have got the engine in bits and have the bent rod removed and all the bolts in a magnetic dish. but im not sure what i need to repair it apart from the rod, do i need to buy any seals or grease anything ? can i use the gaskets i already have or must i replace ? Thanks in advance

Hello...ok..the first thing you want to consider is why the push rod bent in the first place...This usually happens because the cylinder is full of fuel because the spark plug is not firing...but this is for multi cylinder engines...
have you ever changed the oil???..You have to do this..even on small engines...If this engins has a pull starter..Did it turn over or did it sieze up....If it turns over...carefully remove the rocker arm....replace the bent push rod...it should pull straight out after you remove the rocker arm..replace the rocker arm....re assemble the engine parts using the proper gaskets...making sure everything is sealed...drain and replace oil.If the engine siezed up...then you have to get to serviced or replaced..I hope this was helpful.....let me know...PEACE...

Is there anyway that i can fix bent push rods ?

There is no way to repair push rods. If they are bent they need to be replaced. However, the hundred-dollar question is "Why were they bent?" The only thing that will normally bend a push rod is if the pistons hit the valves and compressed and bent the rods. If the push rods are bent, you should go the extra distance to inspect the valves/pistons for damage as well.

My check enigine light came on and car stalled out now it wont turn over thinking timing belt

timing belt should not cause no turn over but perhaps if it is that you won't incure more damage like bent push rods or bent valve stems as we did several years back that cost 6000 to fix and took 3 months to get parts from Japan .get it towed to a dealer or your mechanic asap

On any pushrod engine you have to make sure that the timing is correct or nearly correct when first firing it up, if you had the cam in the wrong position the pushrod had no place to go when the cam lobe came around=bend push rod.

clutch pushrod should just pull out as it should be a 2 piece clutch pushrod model, earlier models were 1 piece and you had to remove clutch cover and pressure plate to remove. hopefully the seal is ok.

Briggs motor bent one push rod

This is a vary commom problem with an Intek engine, I have a similar 21HP engine with similar issue. The valve is sticking in the valve guide, the valve guide usually slides in or out. If out, the guide can jamb against the keepers and not allow full valve opening, thus bending the rod. Fix the loose guide and tight valve before you put in another rod, or you will soon be putting more rods in. I think B&S should help everyone on this one. If the guide goes in, it can cause the valve not to close fully and cause a no run condition.

Bent push rods are a function of the valve guide coming loose in the head. The valve binds and you end up with a bent pushrod. Fix: Replace head. $94.00

Briggs&straton model28n707 type0173-01 won't start

Ours did the same thing. It turned out to be a bent push rod. The intake valve keeps seizing after it's shut off. We free the valve, straighten the push rod and it will run till we shut off. Then same thing. Valve seizes and bends the push rod. We have a call into Sears to see if warranty will fix.....

24 hp engine. one bent push rod, second rod missing lost some power, no other problems

This happened to me,the engine sat for some time and the valves were varnished with stale fuel, they stuck in the guides. This bent the push rod and it was only running on one cylinder. The missing push rod worked its way into the crankcase through an oil passage . I took the engine sump of and found the push-rod. I cleaned removed the head, cleaned the valves and guides replaced push rods and gasket and it ran fine after that.I use fuel stabilizer now,it keeps the varnish from forming.
