Remove drivers. Restart. Reinstall drivers. Restart. Check if wireless is enabled in BIOS. Be sure there is no button on the laptop to turn the wireless on.

It sounds like your WiFi switch was somehow shut off.

I had this problem too. You need the HP Wireless Assistant. Download it here- ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36501-37000/sp36770.exe

Once installed, open the HP Wireless Assistant and click Properties button. Check the box next to "Independent controls for installed wireless devices." Then click "Turn All On" button. On next boot it will be enabled!

Wireless button doesnt work

If the wireless light is amber even if you turn on the wireless light, then follow these steps
1. Go to device manager, Under network adaptor check for the wireless driver eg- Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver or Atheros Wireless LAN Driver, if present then right click and uninstall and choose uninstall then follow step 2, if not present then follow step 2.
2. Search for recovery manager under all programs, click advanced tab - select driver download and click next - choose the driver(ie - boradcom or atheros) - click install - restart the computer.
Then check the wireless light.
3. Do a bios update of the notebook.

4. If still no go then Reseat the wirless card on your notebook.
Situated at the bottom pannel of notebook ,you will find a compartment with a image of tower with signals unscrew that compartment and the carefully remove the wireless card and put it back again and repete the step 2.

HP Wireless Assistant

I just had the same problem with my wife's HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.

It was working fine, then just stopped recognizing the wireless card. My daughter had been using it, so I was in doubt as to what had/hadn't been done to it software-wise (virus?). So I ran the complete recover to restore everything to the state when it was new.

Still can't recognize the wireless. The indicator light stays orange no matter which position the switch is in.

So I google "HP dv6000" looking for a manual, and the FIRST thing I find is a Recall notice http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277 Yeah, I know, they're covering their butts by calling it a
"Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" but they basically know that these machines were defective from the date of manufacure. They told me that my machine didn't qualify for the free service because it was 9 months past the warranty extension and tried to get me to shell out $250 for a new mother board.

Maybe I'll try the external wireless card solution, but it sounds like the MB will probably go bad next. I've owned a bunch of HP computers (have four of them working in the house right now) but I'll probably be looking at Dell next time around.
