Question about Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS Receiver
If I turn it off using the off button it immediately turns itself on again, starts locating satelites then goes to the normal timing page, yet it won't start timing or do anything else when any of the buttons are pressed. It seems to be charging ok and connects and transfers date to the Garmin Training Centre. I've tried the soft reset but it immediately switches itself on and back to non responsive mode. If i try the hard reset and have to lose oall my date can I put it back on the Garmin from the info stored on the Training Centre software?

Yes you can restore your data from the TC after a hard reset. You have to go thtrough the setup menu like chose which language etc first.
Well I have exactly the same problem as you and a hard reset did not work either ...
Upgrading / downgrading the firmware also did not work.... the thing keeps on switching itself on regardless....
Do you have found out something more in the mean time?

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

without any logical thinking behind, I decided to try to download the new version of the Training Centre.
After I did that, the Training Centre stopped quitting, but would not read the Garmin data. I checked the reason for this lack of communication and found out I had made a few changes to the my profile on the Training Centre and the Garmin - therefore - had different settings. Maybe this is what caused the problem in the first place. I told the Training Centre to use the device setting and the problem disappeared.

SOURCE: garmin forerunner 205 won't stay
The battery circuit connects to the main board with spring clips, near the top of the case. If the case is coming open it can cause the unit to spontaneously turn off. These spring clips may also be a little corroded from sweat or water that has leaked into the unit. Try squeezing the top of the unit gently a few times to wiggle the clips inside the case.
If you feel up to it you can open the case, clean and bend the clips, and seal it back up with silicone adhesive.

Unless you created a "back up file" with the Training Center software unfortunatly you will not be able to retrieve the data.
Regular back ups will insure you do not lose information in the future.
To back up your data in the Training Center go to "File" and "Back up" I believe the early version of the Training Center did not have the Back up feature so you would then need to use the "File" Export" option.
