Question about Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager

No communication between computer and scanner

I've been succesfully using ScanSnap modelS500 for the past few weeks and in the middle of one of my scans, it said something about no paper when I pressed the scan button. Anyway, I just exited out of the window and proceeded to "adjust" the paper and try to scan it again. This time it just wouldn't work. The ScanSnap manager shows that there is no communication between the two. The blue light that usually tells you that the power is on and all is okay i snow orange and menacingly blinking at me. So I followed the troubleshooting instructions in the manual all the way to uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Then I called the tech support. When plugging the USB cable in the different USB ports, nothing came up...ie. did not recognize anything being plugged in. But my other external harddrives, etc. are recognized in the same USB ports that I used. I don't know if it is the computer or the scanner. BUT it is getting quite frustrating since all my attempts at scanning these millions of documents in this office are being thwarted. HELP!? I am using a PC laptop. P.S. The tech support couldn't understand why nothing was working and the last resort would be to send it to them and they'll take a look at it. She told me to clean the roller and the head (properly of course). Nothing, nothing, nothing!

I used my scan snap about 4 weeks ago, then tried today and there's NO COMMUNICATION between the two. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times with no luck. If ANYONE can figure this out, I'd love to know too! :(

Yes, I have the same problem, and it is extremely frustrating. I am now searching for an alternative scanner &/or software. I loved this scanner but now this is not worth the headaches.

For interim jams like you mentioned, pull the power cord out of the scanner, close the scanner up, restart your computer, then plug the power cord back in and open up your scanner. Hopefully you will be back to scanning.

I am having a similar problem, but there nothing works permanently. My ScanSnap stopped communicating with the computer, reboots etc, don't work. An interim solution that worked was to reset the computer to an earlier configuration. That worked great for about 20 scans. Then it stopped communicating again. You can tell because the icon-tray changes to an S with a slash through it, and the power light no longer illuminates.

I have tried every uninstall, reinstall, etc. that I can think of. I would like to try to find the registry items and try to fix it there. In any case, if you have an updated answer, I am eager to hear it.

Guys! After some experimentation, I finally tried different USB cables, and it worked! Thumbs up if this works for you too..?

I was having this very problem recently - I was using the scan snap for about 10 months on my new lap top with no problems. After not using it for a month or so, I plug it in and try scanning and get a blue blinking light.

I think I found the solution: I have a toshiba satellite laptop - I had some updates that needed to be installed. Once those updates were installed the scanner worked. I've tried this twice now - it stopped scanning again and I noticed that there was a new update. I installed the update and voila, it now works.

I don't know why this is an issue all of a sudden because I'm sure my laptop needs constant updates- the only change to the computer that I can think of is that I just installed itunes and had to do some tweaking to get my music from my ipod transferred to this new computer. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I never had any problems scanning before this.

Hope this helps someone out there....

You should back up the scnas then reinstall it. I think you may have deleted one of the startu files or dlls by mistake if you used a spayware or registry cleaner or something.

Scansnap hardware error 0x00048004

I had this exact same problem. Turned out that I was using the wrong power adapter. Enough power to turn on the scanner lights and connect to the computer, but not enough to actually perform a scan. As soon as I realized I was using the wrong power cord, I switched it up and voila!

My ScanSnap has worked flawlessly for years. I just tried to scan and got the following message: undefined error occurred.(0xffffdcf7) Won't scan. Tried to reboot - no luck. Let me know...

The same thing happened to me. In a nutshell, you have to install new drivers. Have you recently upgraded your system to SnowLeopard or Lion? I did, and that's what went wrong.

To do:
1. Make sure you have the latest ScanSnap manager: http://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/computing/peripheral/scanners/drivers/mac.html
Install that.
2. Get the Lion update: http://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/computing/peripheral/scanners/drivers/mac-mg22.html
Install that.
3. Open the new ScanSnap Manager (v 2.2). Delete the old one from your dock, so you don't get confused.
4. Scan away.

When I try to scan, I get "Undefined error occurred (0x80004005). A probable cause is that the system is unstable. Reboot the system. If this does not resolve the problem, contact the store where you...

I just fixed it. Uninstall the application by choosing applications and finding scansnap. Drag the folder to the trash. power down your scanner and unplug the USB. Go to the Fujitsu website and download the software again and reinstall it. Plug in the power and USB into your scanner and everything should work fine.

My scanner keeps flashing and not pulling the paper through, I cannot seem to figure out why it will not scan. It does this quite often, what is the problem that is causing this? Scansnap S1500

Go to msconfig or if you have a registry cleaner, go to the startup menu. Disable and ssmgr (scansnap manager in pfu). Reboot. Open the ScanSnap 1500 and then start the ScanSnap manager. The scanner is now ready to scan.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 PfussMon has stopped working

Find your specific scansnap product and update it:

http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/peripherals/scanners/support/downloads.html

A user had a similar issue and I found this update for the scansnap S1500 manager:

http://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/computing/peripheral/scanners/drivers/s1500.html

This occurs with certain Intel dual core processors, so you might be effected accordingly.
