Question about Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager
I've been succesfully using ScanSnap modelS500 for the past few weeks and in the middle of one of my scans, it said something about no paper when I pressed the scan button. Anyway, I just exited out of the window and proceeded to "adjust" the paper and try to scan it again. This time it just wouldn't work. The ScanSnap manager shows that there is no communication between the two. The blue light that usually tells you that the power is on and all is okay i snow orange and menacingly blinking at me. So I followed the troubleshooting instructions in the manual all the way to uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Then I called the tech support. When plugging the USB cable in the different USB ports, nothing came up...ie. did not recognize anything being plugged in. But my other external harddrives, etc. are recognized in the same USB ports that I used. I don't know if it is the computer or the scanner. BUT it is getting quite frustrating since all my attempts at scanning these millions of documents in this office are being thwarted. HELP!? I am using a PC laptop. P.S. The tech support couldn't understand why nothing was working and the last resort would be to send it to them and they'll take a look at it. She told me to clean the roller and the head (properly of course). Nothing, nothing, nothing!
For interim jams like you mentioned, pull the power cord out of the scanner, close the scanner up, restart your computer, then plug the power cord back in and open up your scanner. Hopefully you will be back to scanning.
I am having a similar problem, but there nothing works permanently. My ScanSnap stopped communicating with the computer, reboots etc, don't work. An interim solution that worked was to reset the computer to an earlier configuration. That worked great for about 20 scans. Then it stopped communicating again. You can tell because the icon-tray changes to an S with a slash through it, and the power light no longer illuminates.
I have tried every uninstall, reinstall, etc. that I can think of. I would like to try to find the registry items and try to fix it there. In any case, if you have an updated answer, I am eager to hear it.

You should back up the scnas then reinstall it. I think you may have deleted one of the startu files or dlls by mistake if you used a spayware or registry cleaner or something.
