Question about Canon PowerShot A85 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera shutdown I've had my Canon Powershot A85 for around 2 years. Around a few dats ago, I was showing friends pictures from a holiday to America, when it appeared the batteries had run out, but the lens never retracted, which it usually would do. I attempted to turn the camera on again, and it turned on for a split second, but i never thought to look at the screen for an error mesage, but it just turned off again. Nothing was spilled on the camera, and it wasn't dropped, or any other damage which could have caused a fault like this. I've tried new batteries and it's still not turning on, and the lens is still not retracting. There is no response when the camera is plugged into the computer either... Please help! Anybdy know what is wrong? Kaytee xXx

Re: camera shutdown

Sounds like the fuse went bad in the camera, If you have no power on camera most likely thats what happened, This has to be fixed by repair tec, they have to touble shoot power board.

Since camera wont show live view/ blank screen so same gets saved as picture in memory card that is why no picture/ image in playback either.

All I see is vertical scrolling when I turn the camera on to take a picture. It reminds me how tv's use to scroll years ago, and there was no picture.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

I have a Canon A85 camera that I purchased new about 8-9 years ago. Lately, the pictures are very blurred and have a 'pinkish' /magenta overtone - the actual colors do not come through. I've changed flash...

Can i change the CCD?

Why order it and fix it yourself when you can send it in to Canon and get it fixed for free? My A85 camera had the same problem. I notified Canon, and they paid for shipping and replacement of the CCD image sensor. Look at this service notice that was issued a few years ago - your camera is on the list - and then contact them to explain your problem and arrange a repair.
