Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

ISF I looked into ISF - I live in Toronto Canada (born and raised in US) and there is only 1 tech in my area. He has never worked on this TV before and he charges $300 for a 2 pont and $400 for a 10 point calibration. That is only one input - each additioanl input is $125. Sohe would be $525 (Best Buy caught my attention as they were $300 for two inputs). From the settings you provided - could I expect to see much of a difference from a calibration (or enough to warrnt the cost). The ISF tech seemed really high (probably because he is the only one in the area). As to the Blu-Ray - I do have the s350 - great unit! So, are you ISF as well? What is your first name? Let me know what you think about my calibartions choices and if I should given the cost. Thanks, Dan

Hello Dan, My name is Cassidy and no im a male, my parents must have liked grateful dead or ***** cassidy no seriously though, i would definitely go with best buy, dont get me wrong they can tie their shoes, i guess i was being biased honestly now that i think about it let me retract my previous reply best buy geek squad honestly i think they would be a good pick they wont be the electronic illiterate kids you find selling stuff in the store atleast i would hope not no but if you think about it best buy is gonna spend money to train their geeks well one because they have it, no im not isf certified but one of my best friends is, i sound like alot of the guys on avs forum with my earlier best buy bashing, i would say call them get some info on gurantees,(if any honestly i dont know with them) let them come and ask the kid some general questions and watch all the way from 10 up to 100 when hes running and adjusting the scale youll know if he knows oh and when he gets there ask him how do you access the service menu the answer is hold menu on the remote while holding menu on tv password prompt will appear and here is the million dollar question whats the default password well ur the lucky guy its 0000 honestly there is alot of people out there stumped over that one go into ur menu regular menu and go to the password screen it will ask for ur password hit0000 then you can set ur own 4 number password theres alot of people on avs forum that cant figure that out, lol learning is 75 percent of the fun atleast to me, oh AND WHEN THAT sorry caps was on when the geek squads there ask him questions any that you want if hes like me you wont be able to get rid of him because i believe ur job should be ur passion, well theoretically. 300 for 2 inputs is standard but the way the economy is well isf guys gotta eat.. This is a good set i took back a pz85 panny plasma for this tv if that says anything well the panny plasmas have way to much noise must still be using (genesis)faroudja processors, the lg on the other hand has a awesome processor very smooth hd and sd. i wonder which processor it uses huh theres my next adventure maybe if i get my kids to bed early enough lol.

best buy- yes my calibrations are good i wouldnt give you bad ones i give you my word i know you dont know but trust me principles are very important atleast to me, but all tvs differentiate somewhat tv from tv and yes the same model because the greyscale is set at the end of manufacturing. 400 for one input is way to much way to much.

Color problem with sanyo 37" tv

Look for a "reset" in the display settings. This should reset you back to factory or "out of the box" settings.
If this doesn't help, contact your local service provider and have them check out the set. May cost a small fee for a service call, but if the tech is knowledgable, he or she may give you enough insight or knowlege on how to set up your TV for your viewing environment. Those controls have a purpose that most people are uneducated about.
Check out and if you can find a calibrator in your area, see if they will explain to you the benefits of a calibration. You might also be able to get some info from the site. Also, look at the bottom of the above web page. You will see that ISF is selling a disk that will guide you through a user menu calibraton.
I am an ISF certified calibrator, and I offer to my customers, a free user menu calibration, and yes, I use the afore-mentioned disk. Once you see the difference and are educated about what a calibration does for your perception of your set and how and why it operates the way it does, you will better understand.
Also keep in mind that ultimately there may be something wrong with your set. I am also a repair technician and I have seen countless issues when it comes to repair. Having said that, minor or slight color issues should be resolvable.
Best of luck.

Choosing a calibration tech - please help!

black levels in lcd depend 99% on the technology used lg uses ips panels well sammy and sony use the latter thats why they get a tad better blacks but ips generally do colors better and the fact that th lg we have, has the all new 10 bit panels in them i myself like the pop of the lgs color over the barley there difference of blacks between it, sony and sammy, my honest opinion and let me reiterate my own opinion well lets put it like this my friend this is honestly the best way to describe greyscale, its like a painters canvas while its not as close to accurate as possible well the colors will not be as close to accurate as possible the greyscale is the starting point period this guy adjust while you watch then when ur mind is tricked into liking it well hes done kinda con but not a 100 % i mean he shows up atleast greyscaling and well isf ccc is an art and a science ur tv is able to hold ruler straight scale from 10 to 100 man like i said earlier this guy will only give half the pie, save ur money, and after x-mas treat ur self i promise u wont be sorry i am loving mine and well its hard for a tv to impress me but this lg well i cant quit playing with Hey the response time in cinema mode is 2.7 seconds wow, and leave fresh contrast off that equals 40,000 dynamic contrast now that is torch mode, hey intelligent sensor can save u 65% thats alot, did u get extended warranty.

Follow up isf certified is the only people i will let touch my tvs, my best friend calibrates all my stuff and yes hes isf calibrated the funny thing i actually know more than him, but hey i let him shine why not hes my friend, but yeah go to this site and put in your zip or city sorry its been a while since ive been here, best buy no offense but i wouldnt let those kids plug in my tv, well im only 28 so i guess if not actually the old wise but sorry to get to the point yes now some bestbuys claim to have isf certified reps but i would go with the guys that have been doing it for ever. all should be able to run a grey scale i am running one on my z4 right now actually, plus 300 is kinda high call a isf tech let him come over and see ur isf ccc able tv and he will smile the only thing about the lg70 that could have been better would have been the feature that would have in abled you to adjust the intensity in the color managment oh well still an excellent excellent tv, yeah not the greatest blacks but hey blacks are not even technically a color, but as i am a videophile through and through i am very very happy with this set. sorry for all the extra jumbo.

let me know if you need anyother help but my settings are running straight as a ruler all the way up to 100 pretty damn close to 6500 10- 100, thats very very rare even for broadcast monitors specs.
