Maybe the driver was corrupted. Try to reinstall it from the installation CD, if you have it, or download it from the website of your computer brand.

Thank you for using FixYa.

you don't mention what version of Windows you are running. I will walk you through uninstalling your CD Drive to best determine if it actually is a problem with the driver. I will cover this procedure in XP and Vista. Windows 7 is the same as vista.

click on the start button.
in xp right click on My Computer. then select Properties on the menu. Click on the Hardware tab and then the button Device Manager. once you see the list of devices click the + sign next to DVD/CD Drives and then right click on your CD Drive and select Uninstall. Then exit out and reboot the pc.

In Vista and Windows 7 click on Start and right click on Computer. Then click on Properties on the menu and the System Properties window will open. On the left side click where it says Device Manager and if prompted click on Continue or Allow. Follow the same procedure as the xp at this point. Once the drive is uninstalled, exit out and reboot the machine.

The system will re-discover the drive and reinstall the drivers for it. If that does not work, then more than likely a faulty drive and will need to be replaced. As it will be mechanical problem and not a driver problem.

Thank you.

Norton 360 install has replaced/overridden DVD drive

Hi, I can certainly understand how you feel and hope I can help.

error 19 isnt necesarily a corrupt driver, it can be 2 drivers trying to use the same resource (as in norton's backup drive and your cd drive, for example)

Try this - Click the start button, right click on "Computer", select "Properties", then click "Device Manager" in the upper left hand corner.

Open the bit that says "CD/DVD Drives" and try right clicking on the drives there and selecting "Update Driver Software". This will probably do nothing. Don't worry, I didnt really expect it to. Now right click on the drives, and select "Delete" and then reboot. This will reset the drivers for ya.

This fix usually DOES work. Most of the time. If it doesnt work, try the ones below.

Win dvd 5 came with computer when i purchased it. now will not recognize dvds at all, will not play them

can it read data files inside a dvd disc or any cd? if not, you might need to clean the lens using a cd lens cleaner or a soft cloth. Or the cd drive might be defective, which is common sometimes with 1 yr old machines and up

It doesn't recognize my DVD/CD player

I'm not sure about it only opening time to time, but to get your PC to recognize your DVD/CD player, assuming you're using Windows, right click on My Computer.

From there access Device Management (I'm on a Mac right now, not sure exact words). Find your DVD/CD driver in the list, disabled and enable it.

If that doesn't work, uninstall it. Then scan for hardware changes, and install it (should be automatic, no need for you to download anything)

DVD doesn't open

This problem may be a bad cd/dvd drive. When the computer boots up, go into the BIOS setup. Check to see if the computer recognizes the drive, and make sure it is not disabled. Next, check in the "device manager" to see if there are any yellow question marks or red X's. This might indicate a driver problem, or a misconfigured drive. If these steps fail to resolve your problem, replacing the drive would be your next step. This is a fairly easy task, and worth the time to research the steps for your particular model.

Compal notebook ... problem with dvd.

Try deleting the incorrect driver, then do a search for hardware. If that doesn't work, go to your computer manufacturer's website and download and install the correct driver to your cd/dvd. Then restart your computer. Your cd/dvd drive should be recognized then.

Computer is not recognizing my cd/dvd drive

Umm..Try install all the drivers of your system. the CD was enclosed in your system. if ever the cd is not work you should download the driver of your system.

or After installing a new windows do not restart your system until you finish all the driver installation and also the driver of your CD/DVD.

I 100% pinpoint that the your CD/DVD needs a driver. so install and you'll be fine.
