SOURCE: How do you replace the mother board on the GE refrigerator?

Hi,
If the diagnosis is correct (and I believe it is) your part number is correct and can be purchased for about $130.00 online or at your local appliance parts retailer. It is very easy to replace.

{{{UNPLUG THE FRIDGE!}}}

Pull the fridge out away from the wall so you can get behind it. As you're looking at the back of the fridge, you'll see a panel at the top left. You can't miss it. It has about 15 screws holding it in place. Remove these (use a 1/4" nut driver or socket) then remove the panel.

Now if you look closely at the board and take note of the connectors, you'll see that it's fool-proof... which means that after you take them off, you can NOT get it wrong when you put them on the new board. <-- Now THAT'S good news, huh?

OK, you'll see 3 connectors on one end of the board and they are all white. You'll see 2 connectors at the opposite end, one is white and the other is blue. Remove the 3 white connectors first, leave the other 2 for last.

Next, look closely at the board again... you'll see 4 white plastic tabs sticking through the board. These are the stand-off clips that hold it in place. Look very closely and you'll see that these clips have a "locking" tab on them. Use the tip of a knife to push the tab in while pulling out on the corresponding section of the board. Do this on all 4 corners and the board is out.

Now you should still have the 2 remaining wire connectors (the blue one and the white one) still on the board, remove them now. Pull out your new board, install the 2 connectors (blue and white) first then mount the new board onto the plastic stand-off clips, then connect your 3 remaining white wires connectors. After that is done, plug in the machine for test. You should hear the compressor start within 5 seconds or so.

When you re-install the aluminum cover, make sure that you connect that "flying" green ground wire to one of the screws used for the panel. It's necessary.

All in all, about a 20 minute job.

Hope this helps!
SG

The control board is the problem . Pt # WR55X10656 . There are 2 resistors , one above the other in the area you are refering to . One resistor is for the coil cooling fan ( condensor fan ) and the other is for the freezer fan ( evaporator fan ) . The resistor burnt must be for the condensor fan sincs you said it doesn't apear to have turned in a while . There is no repairing the board with this problem , only if compressor not running but all else work , is the only time a board repair would be acceptable . Replace the board . You have a better conception of this refrigerator and workings , than a lot of "technicians" I know , on this brand and model .

How to change light bulb in ge refrigerator model gts18dbpalww

Unplug the refrigerator. For the refrigerator, unscrew the old bulb or bulbs and screw in a new appliance bulb of equal or lower wattage. For the freezer compartment, if a lamp is present, squeeze the top and bottom of the cover together then unscrew the bulb. Then screw in a new appliance bulb of the same wattage and replace the cover.

Note the appliance bulb is an incandescent bulb and may be hot.

The manual is available here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/5791/GE-Top-Mount-Refrigerator-L0307014?brand_name_search=gts18dbpalww+ . The lamp replacement is given on page 13.

I hope this helps.

Close the doors and look to see if the fresh food door is down lower then the freezer door. If it is adjust the fresh food down up until it is at the same level as the freezer door. Refrigerator just stopped running - light is on

Hello myrtlebeach
Welcome,

You said, your refrigerator isn't running - food getting warmer and the light is on inside

Need clarification
What is the model number and the year?????????????

Do you hear only silence
Check that there is still power in that outlet.
You can use a small lamp to test the outlet for power.
When you unplug the fridge to test the outlet, leave the fridge off for 5 minutes.
Then plug it back in and see if this reset the system.
You may have a freon leak and the compressor will not turn on.

If the fridge is old you may find this article I just read interesting.

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.
