Question about Computers & Internet
If I have movies, music, document, Photoshop...running on my Mac. I wonder to know whether they will slow down my Mac. I use Magican to monitor my Mac, it displays the programs are take high CPU usage. If they will slow down the Mac, should I need to cut down some process?
Maybe, or probably. Well, there are a number of reasons that may causing a Mac computer running
slow, but generally two factors: hardware part & system part. For
hardware part: I guess it's OK if your Mac is not that old. For system
part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, registry errors... out
there which largely slow down any Mac machines. about 80% slow Mac
caused by this reason, if so, try cleaning the system. Learn more from:

Running lots of applications can slow your Mac down, so can lots of pictures or large files. You can save them to an external hard drive, disc or thumb drive and that will help. Other things that slow Mac computers down include the extra language packs, junk files, widgets and other such things. You can get rid of them using a Mac cleaner or you can do it yourself too by following these tips: Fix a Slow Mac. I hope this helps. If none of this works you may need to add more ram, as other commenters have advised.

The most important factor for unix based systems is the amount of ram available. i can run my system at full cpu load and it will respond just fine as long as there is lots of ram available. the number of processes doesn't really matter.

I would make sure you have the latest bios, and video drivers to start. Make sure you have all latest updates for windows. Make sure your hard drive is defragmented. Also make sure your computer is clean and that it is ventilating/cooling properly. If that fails I would just format and reinstall windows.
Hope that helps,

System resources at 75% on idle only gives you 25% to work your notebook. Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Laptop 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM should be plenty to run most OS and programs. The OS, software and accessories attached to your laptop are utilizing 75% of your resources on startup. You may want to do some maintenance, check your processes on startup & carefully remove any not being used, check your networking usage, good antivirus & spyware cleaning, clean & defrag your hard drive, remove some of your files & programs, and upgrade your memory.

First, I appreciate the details provided in your question. Thanks!
The specification of your laptop are fine and enough to run and support Vista. It is true that greater number of processes and CPU usage causes, but normally the machine can handle it well if it gets proper ventilation.
Laptop heating issue generally occurs due to fan failure, which may damage the system, if not checked properly. Another cause of overheating is the dust present inside the laptop, which clogs the fan and heatsink. I suggest that you should get you laptop checked by a professional for servicing (if required). I believe immediate action is required to prevent any damage to your machine and data.
Hope it Helps! Let me know if i could be of any further assistance.
