Question about Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Load Washer

Open Question

Dry brown dust

I have noticed a dry brown dust inside my washing machine. It is odorless, chalky and is all over the inside and on some of the clothes. Does this mean that a belt is bad?

SOURCE: Brown goo in top loading washer

I had exactly the same problem a few years ago. I thought it was a leak from an oil seal and had technicians out. The problem was that I used the wrong washing powder. Find out from the manufacturer what washing powder you need to use and use only that.

SOURCE: My kenmore top loading washing machine won't spin

Once you remove the cabinet, remove the water pump and check it for a garment or lint. Clean or replace the water pump and reinstall it.

SOURCE: Kenmore top loading washing machine does not clean clothes well.

I would seriously consider getting a newer machine. A brown stain could be rust, or an oil leak. Either way it probably is not worth putting any money into. If this helps, please rate my answer. Thank you.

SOURCE: WILL NOT SPIN CLOTHES DRY

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (110.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Three possibilities:

1.

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission.

It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts.

Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes.

The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.

The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump.

If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning. It may not spin fast enough to release all of the water from the clothes.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

2.

If the Motor coupler is fine, and while you have the cabinet off, check the pump inlet and outlet hoses for blockage and check inside the pump to make sure that nothing is stuck in it.

3.

If the motor coupler is OK, and the hoses / pump are fine, the problem could be the clutch:

Sears has a replacement clutch band kit.

See the following for how to pull the pump, motor and transmission.

You DON'T HAVE TO PULL THE AGITATORS OR TUB.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137&osCsid=65fc1c013d6130868b14c8bb4baf7bfd

Also see the Whirlpool / kenmore service manual for these washers.

Both the Motor coupler (available from most appliance parts stores) and the clutch band kit are relatively inexpensive.

See the Following Whirlpool parts list for alternatives to the Sears part numbers.

How to more dry after completed washing

A washing machine does not really dry clothes. All it does is that it helps remove most but not all water from the clothes by spinning the clothes at a very high speed and the water comes out because of centrifugal force.
To further dry the clothes, you need to buy a clothes dryer. This machine has a heater inside that actually dries the clothes while keep it spinning at a slow speed.
Usually the company that made your washing machine will also have a dryer in the product portfolio.
Hope that helps

Hello,

Does the drum sound noisy when it spins if it does then I would suspect the bearings are badly worn and the grease from the bearing is getting inside the drum.

Hope this helps.

Slimy - stinky - brown residue on my clothes after wash

Check the water inlet valve/ Remove the water supply hoses and check the small screens inside the water inlet valve. Make sure they are free of rust or debris. The small screens tend to get rusty due to elements in the water and can cause the type situation you describe. I will attach a photo for reference. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Brown, rust-like marks on washing

Hello I got a Bosch ClassXX5 and got the same problem, white clothes seemed Grey and some clothes seemed washed but not perfectly, until I discovered that the washing machine did not heat water anymore; after the end of the wash cycle the clothes were cold as the program was initially setup to 40C°.....

I used to think soaps were not up to the task and changed brand often, sadly a Bosch product letting me down was not on my mind, since that brand for me was above the rest, quality, strong, during in the time, having electric tools from Bosch without any problem for years!

Brown material

I f you use liquid fabric softener you will get allot of weird things inside the machine building up and eventually falling off onto the clothes.Rust will also have the same effect,if you can see it ,sand it off ,and cover the area you sanded with a sealer and let dry for 24 hrs.
