To restore a Dell Inspiron computer with a Windows 7 or Windows Vista operating system to factory settings, users simply need to press the F8 key when the Delllogo appears. Then, they should select the "Repair your Computer" option from the advanced boot menu, which may require a password.

Dell inspiron mini 1012...it was givin to me person forgot password and didn't have administrative on it did the F8 a million times password needed any other way to factory reset it

You can only use a dvd OS disk, if the motherboard has no password on it. With no administrator password, you cannot use the restore function as permission from the administrator must be given.

Boot up your computer with the Recovery CD to get your computer back to the out of the box condition.

Resetting a Dell Inspiron to the factory settings allows the user to restore the Dell Inspiron to the original operating condition as if it was just taken out of the box. Dell system includes a restore utility called 'Dell Symantec System Restore' to reset or restore your Dell system to factory setting.

Turn on my computer Inspiron 530S starts to boot up gives the dell booting page then goes to 0 Diskette error choose F1 to continue and F2 to start setup. I have tried F2 and change it to no floppy disk...

Sounds like someone may have left a non-bootable floppy disk in the drive. Check to be sure there isn't a floppy in the drive. Also, when in setup, it's the boot order that you'll want to change.

    Missing boot manager

Unfortunately, this often means a disk problem which has corrupted a key windows file. Dell has a diagnostic partition which will allow you to test your disk.
    1. Ensure that the computer is connected to an electrical outlet that is known to be working properly.

    2. Turn on (or restart) your computer.

    3. When the DELL™ logo appears, press immediately. Select Boot to Utility Partition from the boot menu and press .

note.gif NOTE: If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft® Windows® desktop; then, shut down your computer and try again. note.gif NOTE: If you see a message stating that no diagnostics utility partition has been found, run the Dell Diagnostics from the Drivers and Utilities media.
    1. Press any key to start the Dell Diagnostics from the diagnostics utility partition on your hard drive.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

    Factory restore

Who made the PC and what year?

For example the new dell systems I think everyone made after 2005, has a feature where on startup you press and hld the "F11" and it will restore an image of factory settings without the need of a disk.

If your doesn't offer this, you'll need an operating system disk, you can buy these, once bought you boot from it, we can explain how later, then basically delete the partitions and install XP or whatever operating system you decide to buy on your PC.

Before you do any of this, I would recommend buying an USB drive, or DVD RW or CD RW disk and backing up your data, I like USB cause you don't need a DVD writer, or anything like that.

    Good luck!
