When stereo is playing amp display overload and stereo stop playing still has power
Your voice coils in the speakers could be damaged (i have had this happen on my stereo just from age), but it is more likely that the amp itself has been blown and needs to be replaced. if you are good with electronics you could open it up and see if there are any charred parts or burst capacitors.
