SOURCE: refrigerator door pops open, frigidaire top

The refrigerator needs to be perfectly leveled side to side dn should pitch back slightly. Also look at the plane of the doors, that is to say that they should be squared to the cabinet. If they are sagging, you may need to adjust the hinges.

Sounds like the door hinges have gotten loose and let the door drop. With the door open can you move the door up and down? If hinges are tight you should NOT be able to.

SOURCE: Hi, I have Frigidaire side

It is probably a cracked lower bushing or loose lower hinge. If the hinge is tight, then the bushing is probably bad. It is not a hard part to change. Empty the door then then remove the top door hinge. The door should lift off the lower hinge and expose the bushing. Put in a new bushing, grease it a litte with some Vaseline or equivelent and reinstall the door. This link has an exploded view and part # of the bushing (#22 on the diagram). http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5150332&diagram_id=1239787#d1239787
Hope this helps

My fridge door is not closing tightly without force

The bottom hinge has spacers. Perhaps a spacer or two have worn out. Remove the bottom hing and see if there are any spacers if not a hardware store could get a couple for you. Install them and this should raise the door hopefully to clear the liner. The only other thing is the hinge pivot is just worn out. This is more complicated to repair

My refrigerator door does not come up high enough to push in the button when it closes, so the alarm keeps beeping to signal that the door is not shut. I thought if I removed everything from the door,...

You may have one of two problems, you either have too many spacers on the top hinge or not enough spacers on the bottom hinge. With the door on, measure the amout of of distance the door has to come up in order to close properly, say it's 1/4". That being the case, remove door from fridge and install a 1/4" plastic washer over the bottom hinge pin which holds the door in place. It may be necessary to remove a spacer from the top hinge in order for the door to close properly after installing the new bottom spacer, or you may get lucky enough to just take one from the top hinge and put in to the existing hinge spacers on the bottom. Reinstall door and check for proper closure and allignment. Hope this solves the problem.

I have a sears kenmore elite refrigerator. It is a side by side. The doors don't line up when closed. The freezer side is about 1/4" higher. It looks funny when closed.

there are plastic spacers located at the hinge on the bottom of these units, and they break after wear and tear , they are also beveled so they help the door close,, check to see if yours are in good order, if not you'll have to replace them,, to do this you remove the top hinge,, its just a couple of screws that hold the hinge on under the plastic deco cap ,, once you've done that Lift the door off the lower hinge,, install the spacers, and place the top hinge back once the door is reset

Fridge door not closing properly

Hello,

This section of this refrigerator door repair guide will walk you though repairing a refrigerator door on a side-by-side refrigerator. On most side-by-side refrigerators there is a cam that lifts the door up when you open the door so that the door has a tendency to fall down and back into place while it is closing. If the refrigerator has a cam and it is working properly, the refrigerator door will rise up when you open it and lower when you close it. If this cam is broken the door will not close properly. A lot of refrigerators have two cams, one screwed on the door and one on the hinge. You may have to replace the entire hinge to replace the lower cam but the cam on the door can always be replaced. You will have to order the cam by model number and can do so on this website AppliancePartsPros.com.

On side-by-side refrigerators without cams there will be a spacer on the door hinge. If this spacer is missing replace it. Note that any plastic spacer will work as long as it will go on the hinge pin and is not too thick. Never use a metal spacer because this will cause wear on the door and it will eventually squeal when closing.

As on top-freezers the door gasket may be ripped and if so refer to the bottom section that talks about door gasket replacement.

Sometimes the door can get warped out of shape. If the door is closing at the top and not at the bottom or vice versa the door may be warped out of shape. You can fix this by twisting the door back into shape. Take you foot and place it at the bottom and pull the door out at the top or place your foot inside the door at the bottom and push at the top with your hand depending on which way you need to twist the door. Note don’t over do it twist it a little and if it isn’t enough twist it a little more. If it gets worse you may need to twist the other way.

hope this helpout ......

Hi, before you put this part on, have you tried adjusting the door hinge at the tp of the refrigerator? The part you described sounds like the door stop and I do not thing=k this will solve your problem. The top hinge can be loosened and then push the top of the door away from the other door. Please let me know if this helps at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

Ice build-up on the inside top of of freezer door

This is a problem that the factory has released a bulletin on.They have released new hinges, and insulation for inside the door. So far I've only seen the bulletin for Kenmore upright freezers made by Frigidaire. Since it is a Kenmore the bulletin is a Sears Service Flash but the units are identical. For sears its SF46-517. They may extend the service to Frigidaire units but you'll have to contact Frigidaire about that.
