I have an HP laptop with three usb ports in the back. I am trying to install the hardware and software of a medley 440 cd printer by discmakers. I get everything to load but when I try to go to the step where I allign the cartridges I get a message that says "disc makers medley 440 inkjet printer not attached. I cannot find anything wrong. printer info says it is connected to the usb port. I have tried reinstalling hardware and software and I still get the same response.
Re: cannot get computer to recognize new cd printer
Well, your problem is that you purchased a Melody 440. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. The only thing worse than the quality of the printer is the quality of their support. I'm not a person that typically complains, but this is far beyond anything I've ever experienced.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Some times the front usb port arnot work. try to connect the /replace the usb cable to the usb port mounted on motherboard(back side panel of pc), It also may happen the usb port may disabled due to virus. Also you can unistall the driver during power OFF of the printer after uninstall successful power ON the printer, it will show NEW HARDWARE FOUND at the right right bottom of the pc screen ,If you OS is win 7 and connected to internet the driver automatically installed, otherwise you can load the driver cd and install the driver.
Also it can be checked at control panel-add hardware.
Verify that the USB connection is fully inserted in the back of the printer itself. If all is well there, try to think if you've run any updates on your laptop recently, or installed any new software that could be conflicting. If yes, try removing the new software or recent updates, and try a test print. If this still does not work, try disconnecting the printer, powering down your machine, starting it back up and then reconnecting the printer to the USB port. Sometimes you have have a glitch in the USB port that causes your computer to stop recognizing a device seemingly out of nowhere. If none of the above seems to help, it might be as simple as a USB cable that's become faulty. Hope this helps!
I will assume you have a CD for your printer. Note that there are 4 USB ports on your computer...2 in front and 2 in the back. You will need a standard USB cable no longer than 10 ft. (3M) One end is more square (printer end) and one is rectangular (computer end).
First you need to power up your printer and make sure the printhead and ink is installed and alignment has been done. Then turn the printer OFF. Run the installation software from the CD. At one point you will get a Printer Connection window. Connect the USB cable to both the computer and the printer. You can use either the front or rear USB ports on your computer, whichever is easier to access. Turn the printer ON. The software should recognize the printer and complete the installation.
Here are some important support links for your hardware.
A couple of questions: Are you using an accout that has install rights? (ie. Administrator level account ) Are you seeing the UAC (user account control) prompts if you are are you clicking allow this software to run? Can you install other software? If these are true then
at this point try removing all printer software, then restart computer. Now turn on printer connect usb cable to printer then plug into a usb port on the computer, Do you get a "Found New Hardware" popup window? If so remove the cable from the computer and restart the computer. Now insert the cd that came with printer and follow the instructions for the software installation. If you don't see a "Found New Hardware"prompt then try a new usb cable, or try leaving the printer connected and turning the printer off for about a minute then back on. If this doesn't help try leaving it connected and re booting your machine also try different usb ports on your machine. If none of this helps you may have account permission issues or just bad hardware.
I would really need more info about your machine configuration if these tips don't help
The major problem occurs ?????? You keep on trying installing but it will not succeed????????.
The solution change your usb cable and buy one good quality cable specified as USB 2.0 standard I hope your problem will be solved
Remember one thing never install the software while your printer is connect and live - disconnect it and install from the cd because hp installation is programmed accordingly that you have to install the driver first and it will ask to make it live and it automatically detect and register the port in your system.
try to connect the usb of your printer at the back usb ports of your CPU. and try to scan your device. or
Do as follows inst.
Unplug your printer usb on your system. then attach it back to your computer then power on your printer.
right click my computer>properties> in system properties select
hardware> then, click the Device Manager> tab, then select your device on PORTS. then click the scan for hardware
changes> to scan your device. this icon can be found above or click Action menu and select
>scan for hardware changes.
then restart PC. Hope you can do it. And it will help you.
this could be many things.
The reason i suspect is from port speeds.
Most HP computers have different speeds for their ports.
Try putting the USB into a different USB port
This should work.
Also make sure you install any CD's that came with the player.
