With the machine cold (or hot if you have the right implement and can keep your hands away from the steam) I would try to insert something like a pin or a small length of bicycle brake cable up the frother tube and see if you can free what probably is a plug of solid mik in the end of the frother. Sounds like a blockage, it may suddenly blast out steam if you free it and you have the valve open so watch out. If it's not that then I would take the valve apart, especially if the machine is making the right noises. I'm not farmiliar with AEG machines though.

DPcurry is right. You may have to plug it in to get a "feel" for which way and to what degree to rotate the shaft, but works like a charm.

Same thing happened to me and I had to push down on the water tank a little more firmly. It looked like it was seated okay but I guess it needed to be pushed down more to open the little spring-loaded opening at the bottom.

Increase steam flow

If the steam is slow to recover the most likely issue is scale build up on the water level probe on the boiler. Scale builds on the probe and the boiler over fills leaving less room for steam to build.
the probe is usually easy to remove and clean but this MUST BE DONE WITH THE MACHINE COLD AND ALL STEAM LET OUT.
If you are unsure take the machine to an approbed repair centre to avoid risk of scalding.

The problem:
The water level in the steam boiler is too high. This water will sputter as it boils quickly when the steam tap is turned on to full and if the level is too high it will enter the steam exit pipe.

How to fix it:
Open the cover and inspect the steam boiler (this is the large one). It has two probes one is a temperature probe and leads to the micro-controller do not touch this.

The other sensor is the water level sensor. This appears as a stainless tube inserted into a gland type compression fitting.

The problem is that when the boiler is pressurised this sensor may be pushed out.

Obviously this alters the water level (it rises).

The cure is simple. Push on the tube until it is all the way down (or to your liking). Since it came out it should go back in.
You can untighten the the gland lock nut if it does not move (with boiler depressurised).
Tighten the lock nut just enough to hold the tube from popping out again.
Now switch on and wait to for pressure. Open the hot water to drain the boiler enough to cause the auto refill to start (and close it).
When it stops filling the water should be at the correct level (or at least a lower level)
Now open the steam tap and clear excess water.
Dry steam should be flowing.

The level probe in the boiler is set too high and needs to be adjusted, it is located on the right side of the machine, remove top panel screws for access. You will see the red electrical wire going to the silver prove. Remove probe and clean or adjust.

My shaerer expresso machine (ambiente) is giving error, level steam probe, when this happens it will not steam. This problem does not happen all the time and can be cleared by shuting machine off then...

"level steam probe" occurs when it takes more than two minutes to fill the water in the steam boiler. The easiest solution is low water pressure to the machine. Does it have a water filter? replacing it will probably help. Other problems could be the fill valve is not opening fully and or scaled water lines going to the steam boiler. The first thing I would do is activate the hot water tap and look at the pressure. If the water is coming out slow then I know its a restriction to the machine.

I have a thermoplan espresso machine and low water level in steam boiler message is coming up?

Problems with level on the CTS-2 Thermoplan espresso machine? Clean your probes. Make sure your steam boiler has a pressure of zero before you do this. It's best to have the boiler cold before you start. Remove both probes and clean them. Usually sand paper works. Use 1/4 copper tubing and bend it. Scratch the inside of the tank multiple times to remove the scale from the inside of the tank on that spot. This helps with grounding and the level system. This level error could also be related to a lack of water flow to the steam module or a scale problem at the inlet of the boiler. Sometimes the level board is bad or the water pump.. Also, the fuse may have blown in the the power drawer. Pray it's that! Contact for help or parts as we have overstocked. Good luck!

I have had 2 la marzocco lineas where the steam boiler heating elements burst. the first machine was a bit of a frankenstein and I thought it might be a wiring problem since I kept replacing the element...

For the element to burst, the machine has to be devoid of water, Do you have a reset thermostat on the steam boiler, if no then it would be wist to get one put in to protect the element. Next, check the flow from the filter, is it restricted, if it is find out from which cartridge and replace. Next, the level probe might be set too low, lift the probe another 1/2 to 1 inch. Remove the safety valve, turn the machine to 1(fill) and lift the probe so that the water level is above the element. If the machine does not have off-fill-on(3 position switch) then that could be the brunt of your problems. Next make sure the inlet solenoid is filling the machine, you will know be removing the wire on the probe and the machine will start filling.

If that unit has a steam valve I'd suggest checking it to ensure it's not stuck open. If it is, the steamer will not build pressure also. Should be a gauge for tank pressure that will show if it has built up pressure. If the valve is stuck open, it may certainly just dump water instead of steam. It's possible the water level sensors are allowing too much water into the tank, and as a safety it dumps. I've changed steam valves quite often due to the amount of heat they have to deal with.
