Goto the website of the manufacturer of the router and there will be a trouble shooter on there. It sounds daft but most have a default password which are the same as everyone elses!!

Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon. This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look ((())) Make sure its pressed on. There should be an option to "automatically connect" when it detects the network. Look for a checkbox. create the menu tab on your homepage right click in the top toolbar you should see a number of toolbar options select the menu tab which will add File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
click on the tools at the bottom of the drop down list will be internet options in the connections tab tick in the box never dial a connection below that will be change search defaults click on settings you will see all search providers you have if dont need any of them you can disable or remove them Power on the laptop computer and wait for the operating system to boot before proceeding. Right-click the wireless icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. From the pop-up menu select "Enable." This activates the wireless Internet options but it does not turn on the wireless receiver. Push down on the wireless button or wireless switch on the top of the keyboard. After a moments time the switch or button lights up, signifying the computer is ready for an Internet connection. Right-click the wireless icon again. From the pull-up menu choose to view all available wireless networks in the area. A window appears with all the networks your computer receives some sort of signal from. Select the wireless network you want access to, type in the password (if required) and click "Connect." Momentarily the laptop computer connects to the Internet.
you should be able to, it depends on the laptop, the os, the wireless adapter, and the settings .
Click start Control Panel - Network Connections - right click on 'Wireless connection' (or similar) and click 'enable'. right click on the network in the bottom toolbar select open network sharing center you should have the options to either connect or disconnect or set up a network connection this will vary depending on your operating system

Looking to connect awireless laptop printer and need the WEP or WPA key for the wireless network

WEP or WPA Key is the password for your wireless network.. it's the same password you used to connect your laptop to the wireless.. if yo forgot what it is, you might need to contact the manufacturer of the router or your internet service provider to reconfigure or re-setup your wireless network.. hope this helps a bit.

first a couple of things.
if your router has wireless support your laptop (if new) should have a wireless adapter built in, so basically your destop computer can be wirely plugged into the router and your laptop shoud "connect wirelessly" to your adapter
so this is how your set up should look like

desktop
--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ----- wire----- desktop

laptop
--cable-- = - cablemodem - = linksys router = ))wireless))) laptop

you need read up a bit, here are some links that will have info you need

manual for wireless configuration (select the proper revision for your router and check user manual)

configure wireless network for vista

read up and if you have any questions post back.

hope that helps.

NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

I contacted Bigpond after my whole internet collapsed due to my amature abilities in fixing the internet. >_<" yet they fixed my internet connection by disconnecting my current (DLINK DIR-300) router from the network. hmmmm... the technician also confirmed that my current broadband modem (2WIRE 2071-A) isnt capable of supplying a shared connection to more than one computer!! she also directed me towards a modem with an inbuilt wifi router that "supposedly" is the best option right now. (2701HGV-W) I'm a bit shaky and the stupid NETGEAR adaptor problem still exists - im willing to buy the new modem if its guaranteed to abolish this problem and give me a better internet wise outlook - please any suggestions will be appreiciated =)

Hi there.
You hit the nail right on the head!! desktops don't come wireless enabled so you will need a wireless card installed into it.
I recommend a wireless PCI card as a Dongle are not that good and can be easily broken.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

look on the back of your wireless router there should be a little pin hole under it says reset push the button inside that pinhole and hold it for about 30 secs remove it and let the router do its thing it will start back up and you will have to reset all your settings on the router but this should fix your problem
