    wireless not working

  • MopedFred Feb 16, 2009

    I tried everything and my computer still does not recognize my wireless connection. Could my antenna be toggled "off"? The light that normally shows my wireless is not coming on?? My son's computer works fine with our wireless system so I know it's not the router.

    I tried to repair the wireless connection with no luck.

    Is there a step by step approach that I can follow?

    Please HELP.

Yes, There could be alot of things that are causing your Operating System to not obtain signal from your Wireless Router....I would first of all try troubleshooting this by;;
1st - Unplug your High-Speed Internet Modem and Wireless Router for 30 seconds apprx.
2nd - Restart your Computer.
3rd - Once your computer is logged in and at desktop, Plug-In your High-Speed Modem then wait until all lights appear that show your Modem is online then plug-in your Wireless Router then wait about 30 seconds then try to connect to your Wireless Connection.
If these do not work make sure that, you do not have your Wireless Router. I would also recommend that a way to create and obtain a signal strength that the computer can reach please go to the following website http://www.mythings.com/tips/1664/Where-to-Put-Your-Wireless-Router This should assist you with making a stronger signal strength.

When I try to connect using Wireless Network connection the following error message now appears: "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another programme to manage this...

Your obviously having a network configuration issue. Go into Network icon, set up a network connection, make sure you have Wi-Fi and that your laptop is picking up the signal then manually set up or scan for the wifi access point, your laptop should pick up the access point and a name should appear for that wifi spot. Once that is done then you can rename your access point with your name or HOME whatever you like, its hard to explain through here.

Cannot connect to wireless networks, where is

First of all check these are ok: Check your network adapter settings to see if you have your wireless card enabled. If that is ok, see if you can pick up any other wifi access points apart from your own. If you can see others fine, this means your wifi card is working correctly. If you can see your own access point and not connect to it, check the signal strength, items like microwaves and cordless phones can interfere with the signal. If you have a good signal try connecting. If it is asking for a key/password, then you will need to find the authentication key for your wireless access point.
If you cannot see your wifi access point but can see others, then you may have SSID broadcasting disabled, or the wifi might not be functioning correctly. Check these in your access point settings.

Activating wireless

Check the Device Manager to see if the Wireless card is working and enabled. If not reinstall the wireless card driver.
If this doesn't work, you may have a faulty wireless card.
If the wireless card is not built-in remove it and insert it into another computer to test the wireless card.
