I get the same error message when trying to update it from DVD I purchased.  Makes me so glad I dropped $70.00+ for such a useless piece of plastic.  Little wonder why Garmin doesn't make this model GPS anymore.

Make sure all add-on security programs are disabled and all background programs are off.

You need to go http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/cache/offonce/us/support/searchsupport and download new software for your garmin product. I did that and it worked. It did take a couple of hours for everything to be downloaded to the computer and the gps system. Hope that works!

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

New garmin - got latest updates from garmin loaded it then it says maps not unlocked?

Garmin only allows you one free update for your GPS as long as you download and install it within 60 days after you purchase your unit. If you have tried to download any updates after your 1 free update without paying the update fee you would get the error you have mentioned. If this is your first update, or you have paid for it, and you are getting the error, the map has become corrupted. You'll have to contact Garmin's support and they will have to supply you with a code to use to unlock the map.

Download update problem

Are you trying to update a Nuvi that already has European maps installed or are you trying to install European maps into a Nuvi that does not already have them?

If it's a map update, are you getting the error when you download the update to pc, or when you are trying to install the update to the Nuvi?

When I install US map updates into a streetpilot or Nuvi, it typically ends with a download error but the maps do in fact get updated and the new software versions are shown in the setup menus.

The Garmin rep I spoke with says that is normal.

If you are in the United States, I can get you maps, updates, and even install them for you if you wish.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you're interested.

Bought the 2009 map for nuvi 660 got a email saying to download it from https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/mapDownloads/mapDownloads.faces and i am getting a message saying: AN HTML 404 ERROR HAS OCCURRED...

Though this isn't a solution to the HTML 404 error directly, you can go back to www.garmin.com and click on myGarmin and login to your account. There is a link to "recent downloads" that you can access to attempt the download.

I was able to successfully download the 2009 map upgrade this way.

2009 map update not loading

Fixed. Called Garmin. It seems that version 4.90 FW on the Nuvi 350 (which came shipped on my 350) has a bug where it cannot communicate with the Garmin software either to update maps or update FW. Tech from Garmin e-mailed me a patch that I copied into the Garmin folder on the Nuvi itself, via USB and Windows Explorer. I then rebooted it; the patch installed itself which then allowed the unit to communicate with the map upgrade software and all is well. 2009 map update is now installed and the Nuvi is working fine again. Haven't tried upgrading to newer FW yet; will probably leave well enough alone.

Does it recognise the Nuvi? Are you connecting it through a usb Hub. Are the drivers for the nuvi installed properly? Usually there is a folder named USB, thats where the correct drivers reside, and that's where you tell the computer to look when it asks for the drivers.
