Can't get any tv reception

I received a sony tv from a friend as a gift. it came without a user's manual and without a remote. i dont have any cable in my apartment. when i plug the tv in and try to watch tv on it, it's stuck on channel 3 (with a ton of snow). even if i press channel +/- it stays stuck on channel 3. can anyone tell me how i can get the basic channels to show up? i thought that i didnt need to have the tv connected to cable to get the basics (abc, nbc, etc). i tried going through the channel auto-set up and it scans through the channels but i still can't get anything. my vcr is hooked up to it and it works fine...

when i hook my ps3 up to the tv, matching Y, W and R cords with their matching spots i still cannot get anything to appear on the screen on the "VID" or "FRNT" channels. Could you possibly tell me why or help me to fix this? The ps3 is on and the cords are plugged in, I've tried both the front and back A/V hook-ups and tried every channel. Can you help me?

My friend, you need to hook up a signal source such as an antenna or cable . The channels wont come in and it will all depend on where you live and how close to a major city on what and how good you will get the stattions. then once an antennena is connected, do the auto programming again. Good Luck

How do you expect a picture, without any Signal input? Just get any Rabbit Ears Indoor Antenna. Ore, if u wanna first try out, just push a length of Electrical Wire approximately 3-4 feet long into the Antenna socket at the rear of the TV, and then do Auto search. You will be able to view a few local channels - tho a little grainy. If u are satisfied, good, otherwise, then get an antenna.

SOURCE: Element FLX 3210 not scanning for cable channels

YOU HAVE A BAD TUNER OR RF INPUT. IF YOU CONNECT THE CABLE TO THE VCR AND THEN USE THE VIDEO OUTPUT OF THE VCR TO THE VIDEO INPUT OF THE TV YOU CAN USE THE TUNER IN THE VCR TO CHANGE CHANNELS.

How can i access the menu without the remote control?

On older Televisions such as the one you have listed, you cannot access those menus without a remote control. Just to make sure I skimmed the user manual found here. The only suggestion I have is to get a universal remote with a menu button. Dont forget to check with your other remotes to see if they have universal functionality. Most receivers (surround sound units) have multi-function remotes. Also check your satellite or cable remotes to see if they have universal functions. You can tell, because they will have multiple buttons that say things like "TV, AUX, CABLE, ETC" If so, you can program one of these remotes (or grab one at most electronics stores to program) and have your menu available to you.

Also, check the link to make sure there isnt some functionality hidden away that I didnt see.

Cheers!

I need a copy of the user manual or at the very least the info on how to access the menu without the remote control

There should be a button somewhere on the tv (bottom / top / side) that says MENU so you can access it without a remote. It should be right beside the POWER ON / OFF button. However if there is none, then you might have to get yourself a universal remote and program it for your tv. Cheap ones are usually under $20.

As for a USER"S MANUAL, go to the tv's manufacturer's website (www.sony.com if the tv was a sony) and look under the SUPPORT or DOWNLOADS tab. Enter the tv's model number when prompted and click on the link to download the english version of your user's manual.

Good luck and please comment back if this was helpful.

Cannot program channels into remote

IF YOU, STILL SUBSCRIBE DIRECTV, YOU MAY GO TO THE MENU, USING THEIR CLICKER AND GO TO THE PART OF MENU, WHERE YOU CAN CHOOSE TV TO OPERATE WITH DIRECTV REMOTE. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CHANGE ANYTHING ON TV BY USE DIRECTV REMOTE, BUT TO OPERATE IT'S CONTROL BOX. REALLY, YOU CHANGING CHANNELS ON THAT BOX, NOT TV ITSELF. IF YOU'RE NOT A SUBSCRIBER, FORGET THAT REMOTE! UNLESS YOU'RE A CUSTOMER, IT WON'T HAPPEN. JUST "GOOGLE" YOUR MAKE AND MODEL FOR A SUITABLE UNIVERSAL REMOTE, OR THE ORIGINAL.
ALSO: YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ANY RECEPTION(HD OR ANY), UNLESS YOU HAVE RABBIT EARS OR ANTENNA ON A ROOF.
GOOD LUCK,

We just got a used fwd-42pv1 flat panel TV as a gift and we can't seem to make it work. We got it without cables or manuals. We tried to plug in the comcast cable and we got nothing. We turn it on and...

The text 'INPUT 1' indicates that it's an A/V or HDMI input. My belief is that it's the Composite Video Input #1 to which you would connect a VCR or DVD player up to.
To get TV reception you would need to select on the hand held remote 'INPUT' button. Or even try the channel up/down button as it may go directly to your RF TV/Cable input.
Would help if you can supply me with your 1) Make and full Model # and if you enter this into a web search engine like Yahoo. You would be able to find a manual for this panel.
Blessings always,
