SOURCE: 18-55 lens not doing auto-focus

I offer you to buy Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. This gives very good performance for your studio work and specially for portre. It has Image Stabilization and Ultrasonic Motor. Other professional lens are very expensive. It has red ring.

SOURCE: Auto Focus not working for Canon EFS 18-55mm lens

I see this same problem occuring all over the internet on Canon lenses. Autofocus not working any longer. For some stupid reason the lense will lock up and quit autofocus while other lenses will work fine. A light pull on the lense focus ring away from the camera body will give a noticable pop or click which unlocks the jammed lense. Try it if you are having troubles with your autofocus. This is a very common problem and worth giving it a try.

SOURCE: I have a canon EF-S

One thing you can try is to clean the gold contacts on both the camera and the lens. You can do this with a pencil eraser, make sure to carefully do this making sure not to get any eraser dust in the camera or lens. If this does not work then I would send it to Canon for warranty repair. You can contact Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON or go to their support web site and select your lens and fill out the request for service.
Canon support page can be found here http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support

Hope things work out. Chris

My Canon Rebel XS will not auto focus correctly. It sounds like it is trying to focus, but only flashes and will not focus or take the picture.

Those quick fast flashes usually mean the camera is trying to find contrast to take the photo but it can't. The scene might be to dark and the camera can not set it's focus and there for cannot take a picture. Move the camera slightly from left to right on the subject and see if it can manage to set focus. It's normal for the camera to give out these quick flashes as it is trying to find some sort of contrast in the subject, turning on a room light might help this?

Now when you manually focus, then the camera does not have to use it's built in auto focus sensor and will let you take a photo when you manually focus on the subject.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and body where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Cleaned inside of viewfinder, now AF focus lights gone

Then you learn, when everything works fine, dont mess with it! Have a look at the gold pins that rely the body to the lens. Also check that your lens manual switch focus is engaged... Try a friend lens to see if its your cam or the lens...
