I can't help you here. All i will say is NEVER mess with the registry!! The registry can ruin everything if tweaked by the unknowing hands. I installed a so called registry cleaner 6months ago and it took the best part of 4mnths to get it back to how it was. I'm still struggling to uninstall the CLEANER 6 mnths later.

Why doesn't my gateway pc computer start?

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Need recovery **** for modle# w4885 it wont boot up , nothing but black screen and cursor flashes

When you go back to boot up, and you get to the Dell screen, can you please start tapping the F8 key, that should bring you to a start up menu, where start in Safe Mode is an option. If you can get there, please go to Start, Run, and type in sfc /scannow, exactly as shown, with a space between the c and the /, then hit Enter. If you have any missing or damaged system files this should repair them.

When this has completed, please go to Start, Run, and type in MSCONFIG, then hit Enter. On the General tab, click on Diagnostic Startup, then reboot the PC. If you can get to the log in screen, then one of your startup programs is causing the problem. If not we'll have to look for something else.

Is there any kind of error message other than getting to the black screen? Is the screen completely blank or is the cursor next to something, a letter, or symbol?
Hope this helps.

turn on
press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (Task Manager)
click applications tab
click "New Task"
type in > explorer.exe
click okay
If boots download, install, update, and run malwarebytes free version. Delete anything it catches. If log shows registry infection problem should be solved. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Hope it helps

My neighbor gets a message when he boots up saying to "enter CURRENT password" It happens so fast I can't even get into the BIOS. It's on a black screen with white letters. It will only let you type in 7...

You should remove the BIOS battery inside of the machine and also remove the power and wait for a 15 min.
Then put the battery in it's place and turn your machine on.

When you remove the BIOS battery, the settings of Bios will set in Default mode so the boot password and Bios Password will be removed.

My Gateway GM5972 computer shut down and will not start up again, There is no video or audio. The fan still runs, and the DVD drive come on, but computer will not start up

Despite the fans running and the dvd powering up it could still be a power supply problem BUT it really sounds like the motherboard died.
I have built and repaired thousands of computers and your description fits the majority of the dead ones. Replacing the motherboard with a like board is the easiest solution. You can replace with a different motherboard but be prepared for problems. I wouldnt suggest it unless you are a experianced tech.

Blank screen

Try plugging the laptop into an external monitor to make sure the laptop is booting up properly. If it is unplug the monitor from the laptop; or if you know the laptop boots up fine and you get the windows audio when it boots and the initial starting beeps then forget the monitor. Shine a torch or light source on the screen and if you see a faint picture then the inverter on the screen has developed a fault.
