Why is the variabel key un stable on Galaxy DX959

The variable key will sometimes drop when talking on my radio. I have also noticed it will fluxuate when the mike is keyed even when not talking. Often i will have to turn the RF power knob farther to get the same key input as before. What could be the cause of this ?

Dirt or corrosion on the controls, the relay contacts, and even some switch contacts. Contact cleaner applied judiciously should remedy most of the potential causes.

The 959 is not one radio you can get alot of power out of possibly 25 watts if it is tuned properly

it can not be tuned to go high or low you need to add switches for that and then realign the radio.

RED SWR ALERT LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I KEY UP

In most cases if the mic works the common cause is the transmitter in the mother board is shorting out or not soldered to the board properly. another cause could be that your antenna is too close to the CB and will disrupt the signal.

Galaxy dx959 will not receive. Speaker is working. S meter is showing incoming signal.

the over power doides may be blown. you should start there .they should be marked D-1 and D-2. you may want to replace them with diodes of a higher rating.

How to Hook up My galaxy 250 watt Linear Amplifier to My galaxy dx959

you will need a jumper cable to go from the box to the radio then the antenna plugs into the box at the antenna connection point. Now for DC power you will need at least some 12 gauge wire with a fuse connected to the pos and the neg. Then you connect it to the fuse box and a ground . I personally would not use one ,if my radio cannot out do yours then so what.If you can't hear my radio within 12 miles of me then I will talk to you when you get closer. You want to hook one up thats your option but I don't even want one.

The variabel key drops sometimes drops when radio is keyed up and sometime the RF power knob has to be turned farther to bring it back up on my Galaxy DX959.

I'm not shure if you have tried but turn the mic gain down then check the d.k output. If you still lose power after a d.k it could be a final it's hard to say w/o seeing it. Also an external meter is more stable than the internal one. Check your coax, make shure all are tight. If you need more help e-mail me at

Frequency counter displays two digets high from hump on fine clarifier adjestment on usb.27.186 insted of 27.185. also in am mode shows dead on with clarifer hump until mic is keyed thin dropes from 27.185...

Turn that fine clarifier a 1/4 turn or so to the right. I own a Galaxy DX99V and sometimes if that clarifier is just right it will drop down a hundredth of a MHz just like that when the mic is keyed. Your radio is just fine. Just adjust that clarifier a tad. The Galaxy DX99V is one of the best radios out there. I love them. -73-

When ikey the mike on sideband lights go on off like your turning it on and off like it sucks all the power runnig it inside house with three amp converter brand new got it today

3 Amps is probably not enough for this radio. To test this diagnosis, conenct a car battery inline with your charger or just the battery to the radio. BE SURE TO HAVE A FUSE ON THE POSITIVE power wire and observe polarity ( + and - ) . If the radio works like it should, you now know the power supply is not big enough. Try a 10-15 amp supply. The manual shows the radio to have a 4 watt ouput on Am and 12 watts on SSB. My experience with Galaxy radios says go with at least 10 amp supply. Here is your manual and a service info page.

Have new dx959 doesnt get out very far talking 100yrds or so use rdking 56 mic mic works fine on old radio pc 78 and gets out fine also are 959 radios ok or junk has good reception

The DX959 has an output power setting knob. It's located next to the channel selector and is labeled RF Power. Turned counterclockwise will reduce output power. Turned clockwise will increase output power. Your switch is probably turned all the way counterclockwise resulting in low transmit volume.
Also, make sure the wiring for the RK59 is correct for the Galaxy. Even though it's a 4 pin plug, the pinouts may be different for the Uniden and Galaxy radios. Do a Google search for mic pinouts for your two radios to check.
