Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

I am getting an error code of 8002F14E on my playstation 3.

I am getting an error code of "8002F14E" on my Playstion 3 (60GB). Meanwhile, there is a game that is stuck in the system and it will not give me the option to delete the game. Additionally, the system is trying to do the system update and getting the above error message. Please help if you can.

I just received the same error code last night (5/16/09) on my PS3.

I can't even play any games since the system just keeps trying to complete the system update whenever I turn it on, and it keeps freezing up at 19% during the download.

I just received my PS3 as a Christmas gift and it is only around 5 months old.

I just got off the phone with Sony tech. support, and they are going to send me a pre-paid shipping box to send in my PS3 in exchange for a refurbished PS3. (I asked if the refurbished one was just to use temporarily until mine was repaired, and they said no, I will be keeping the refurbished one and I will NOT be getting my original PS3 back.)

Thankfully, I didn't have much date saved on the hard drive. That is something to consider if you need to send yours in to Sony and you won't be getting it back- I'm not sure IF and HOW this information could be retrieved. Some people have music, pictures, etc. in addition to normal game progress that may end up all being permanently LOST!

I just hope it doesn't take too long for the replacement to come in. At least I have my XBOX 360 to play in the meantime. (My 360 also needed to be replaced awhile back, although I needed to pay part of the cost for a NEW one at Best Buy.)

In case this helps, here's Sony's customer service number to call for repair or replacement- 1-800-345-7669. When I called, I ended up going through the menu repeatedly and going nowhere until I finally pressed "0" to speak to a representative. (The recording keeps talking about going to the Sony website for service or repair, and I think it may be quicker just to speak to them on the phone.)

Be ready to have your serial number ready and other numbers on the back of your PS3 when you contact Sony. If you still have your PS3 box, these numbers can be found on the white colored labels attached to the outside of box at the very top. They specifically asked me for the 3 letters/numbers that appear after the "CECH" code. (The "CECH" code was at the top right of the white labels.) Your numbers and labels may be in different areas, but this is where I found mine.

Let's hope this works out soon for us all!

I also have the same error code message. Its stuck in the update mode but only at 3%. I contacted ps about the issue and they gave all these things to try but of course none worked. They told me that my hard drive was corrupted during the update and that it would need to be sent in. Since mine is out of warranty they told that there would be a $150 service fee for fixing it. I told them that i would not be paying them anything because if it wasnt for there freaking update it would still be working right now. Playstation is screwing up alot of people's ps3 with there update's!!! I have read multiple forums on the same problem with the same error code. And of course they just say that its screwed and to get a new one which is BS!!! But just recently because ps told me that my harddrive is corrupted i went a bought a new harddrive to install and i followed the new harddrive install instructions off of ps network. It did not work at all. I put the new hd in and it wouldnt even turn on. Then the old one back in. i did this multiple times and to my surprise the new hd would never turn the ps3 on and the original would turn it on but be back in the install update loop again. There is not a hd problem with the ps3, there is something else going on and it's playstations fault! And there are screwing alot of people out of money everytime they do it and they think that they are going to get away with it with me. I will post another update once i have talked to a lawyer over the deal and show all the issues that apparently alot of people are having to the lawyer. until then everyone needs to tell playstation and your local news and game shops about the issue so that it can be addressed by ps.
