Question about Kohler Plumbing

Faucet threads stripped-earator won't screw on tight

I have a portable dishwasher that connects to the faucet using a special aerator. When I installed my new kohler faucet , i had to remove the aerator and install my special aeraotor so I can run my dishwasher . I could not get my aerator to seal properly and am afraid that the threads on the faucet are stripped . I suspect that Kohler uses plastic in their faucets and because the threads are made of plastic , they are suseptable to stripping

SOURCE: Pressure problem with Kohler shower faucet??

Hi pglaw,

My best guess is the supply valve for the hot side isn't open all the way. This valve is right on the valve and is accessed by taking off the front cover plate. This would still allow the pressure balancing valve to let water through but then you would have a small flow on the hot side.

If this isn't it then then cartridge is bad.

Please rate this response and good Luck,, phil

SOURCE: Single Handle faucet broke on my Kohler kitchen

Is cheaper to replace the whole tap as the service kits cost almost as much as the tap to buy, I presume you are talking about a flick mixer tap (that is what they are called in australia)
Replacing them is reasonably easy, turn off water at the main out on the footpath turn the tap on to let the water run out, go under the sink with a couple of spanners or deep reach socket and undo the lines and the tap hold down nuts and remove, replace in reverse order

SOURCE: Kohler Fairfax single control kitchen sink faucet

Remove the air-irater at the end of the faucet where the water comes out. That is where 99% of clog are on faucets. If that does not do it then you need to replace the cartridge.

Good Luck and please rate 4 thumbs up for the free answer.

Do I need to replace the adapter for the faucet areator for my portable dishwasher.

Probably. If you didn't discard the package of extra fittings that came with the dishwasher, you may find the correct adapter/aerator fitting in there. Otherwise, try contacting the manufacturer of the dishwasher. Be sure to provide the make and model of the new faucet along with the model number of the dishwasher.

How do I remove the aerator?

aerator always screw off typically counter clock wise (lefty loosy), but remember the aerator is "upside-down" as you look at it on the faucet arm. There are two types, male threaded and female threaded. Both unscrew from the faucet arm the same. There are at least four different sizes so take the old you with you when you go to replace it. Most times the threads are gunked up by lime and hard water deposits which means a pair of pliers or channel locks along with gentle rotation of the aerator cap will be needed to loosen the threads. Be aware that a washer may tend to stick in the faucet arm opening after you remove the aerator. Stick your pinky into the faucet spout opening and fell if there is a black rubber washer. Replace with a new one in reverse.

Hi Jean,

These mesh discs and the part they go into - along with a few other small parts - make up what is called "an aerator".

steve_con_89.jpg

Most aerators simply screw on threads at the end of your faucet. You can remove it by twisting it. You may need a wrench to loosen it first. Wrap the aerator in thick cloth / towel so that the wrench does not dent or scrape the finish on the aerator body.

steve_con_90.jpg

Some aerators thread up and inside the faucet - rather than at the end - and need a special wrench to remove

steve_con_91.jpg

Once removed, you should reassemble the parts and reinstall on the faucet. You may find replacement aerators in Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. if you're missing parts, etc. If changing it out, be sure to bring the old one with you to match.

I hope this helps & good luck!

My husband installed a new KWC Domo faucet in our kitchen yesterday. When he was finished, he turned the faucet on and got a trickle of water. We are stumped and the instructions are no help.

Take off the aerator from the spout (it just screws on, and should not be so tight you need a wrench) and then run the water. You'll probably find the aerator screen is clogged with debris and you can wash it off. This often happens when you turn the water supply off to connect the new faucet. After you clean off the aerator and screw it back into place your new faucet should work fine.

I have a portable ''GE quiet power'' portable dishwasher and the hose won't fit on my new faucet - is there some sort of adaptor I can buy for the sink so it will fit properly?

Yes, you need to know whether your faucet is male or female thread (threads on outside or inside) and buy an adapter that will fit into the faucet where the aerator normally sits. These are generally available in the plumbing section of your local hardware store. Make sure you know your diameters as well (O.D. stands for Outside Diameter and is usually male thread where as I.D. stands for Inside Diameter and is usually female thread)

I need to find a new aerator & the guts

I had to go to Home Depot and stack a few adaptors together to get a proper fit. You will probably end up without an aerator but, you will be able to use the dishwasher.

Attaching potable dishwasher

Did you remove the existing aerator from the faucet nozzle first? If not, that's your problem.. If you did..then look at the adapter to see if the therad pattern on the end looks like the thread pattern of the aerator you've removed.. If it does.. then you need to install that one.. Sometimes ..you can get them started by rotating it into the faucette backwards a few turns and then rotating it forward until the threads get started properly..after that.. just tighten it in place.. Hope that helps !
