Whirlpool models generally only have two methods of removing the agitator. One type uses a hex bolt, and the other uses a recessed square nut. The removal procedures are explained in the link provided. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if still have questions.

yes sounds like the dogs to me. to replace them, remove the cap at the top off of the top of agitator by pulling it up (no tools required) then remove the clear plastic cover by pulling on one of the two tabs in it,remove the bolts using 7/16" socket and pull the agotator out of the machine by gripping it at the bottem.seperate the upper portion of agitator by pulling it upand the dogs will be located under the clear plastic,to replace them seperate the top barrel of agitator a cam that holds all (4) dogs will come out remove the retainer over the dogs install new ones and reassamble in the line up upper barrel and main agitator you will (2) tabs on main agi. and (2) corosponding slots on barrel line them up and snap in place
The top of the agitator pulls off. near the area where the two square holes are is a clear plastic piece. This pulls out as well. Then you will remove the bolt below this. From there the whole agitator can pull out. The issue is there are 4 plastic dogs near the bolt that have worn. You will need to seperate the 2 pieces to get at replacing the 4 dogs that look like a tear drop. I do not know a good way as they are 4 small crimped areas near the bolt that needs to seperate. I broke a couple and did my best at re-attachment. Quick job just take your time.
You have bad agitator dogs . Easily replaceable and inexpensive . Remove the center bolt holding the agitator on and seperate the 2 agitator pieces . You will see 4 teardrop looking pieces ( dogs ) . Replace and your done .
You need to remove the screw from the center of the agitator and pull up on the agitator from the bottom , to remove it . Seperate the 2 piece agitator , and replace the 4 agitator " dogs " . Reasemble . The " dogs " lets the top section of the agitator only move in 1 direction causing the clothes to " tumble " . OR , take the complete agitator to a parts house and they will install them for you .
I have run into the same problem and spent some time with it. There are little pieces that catch and release the top aggitator called dog agits(dogs). They are cheap and easy to replace but the problem is this aggitator is put together so that the top and bottom piece do not come apart. I dont know how this will resolove.
There are small but strong plastic tabs that hold the 2 pieces of the dual action agitator together. Look into the center from the top with a light you will see them. If you got the agitator out. 1 bolt 7/16 socket holds it in and down, seperating the 2 pieces to get to the dogs should be easy.
hi, There is a 7/16" bolt that hold the agitator in. Remove the top cap on the agitator and the cap inside it to get to the bolt. Once you get the bolt out, pull the agitator out and seperate the two pieces.
I hope this help you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
after removing the agitator from the machine (7/16 bolt) i place the agitator on the floor, step on either side of it and pull up on the top half, ittl come loose, needs a little help! a word of advice though is after replacing the agitator dogs, turn the entire agitator upside down and insert the bolt through the entire agitator assy and keep constatn pressure on the bolt as you turn it boack over and try to realign with thte tranny shat. ( you see the parts wanna seperate as you try to reinstall them otherwise)
