VPN connection timed out

I am working on Dell Latitude D630 Laptop.

Not able to connect to my office network thru iVPN (Aventail application). Able to open all websites.

When i ask my company tech guy, he re-installed VPN application and it was working fine from my office network.

When i went to my home trying to connect to my office network via iVPN connection, problems started.

Following are the error screen description

VPN Connection Failed
Unable to connect to the remote network; the remote network connection has timmed out.

To troubleshoot:
-Verify that your computer is connected to the Internet.
-Make sure the host name "my company host name" is correct for your VPN appliance.
-If you have a personal firewall enabled, add "company hostname" as a permitted destination or trusted site.

I tried all above troubleshooting steps, still in confusion why i am unable to connect.

Please help me in this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Same problem here. To expedite signing on (at least), cancel and re-logon. I'll bet it errors 3 times and then connects like a charm.

VPN access can be particular. First - if the VPN was put on by your site admin or LAN Admin at work, then you need to ensure you've been given VPN rights through the network and also through the host of your VPN agent. If you have, then you would first need to log on to that pc at work, while connected to the network in order for the computer to recognize and store your credentails. Also, during the installation of the vpn, your IT guy may have had to turn off the proxy settings: tools, internet options, connections, LAN settings. If the boxes are unchecked, try checking them, closing your browser window and opening it back up.

How to get my dell lattitude c400 with wifi to connect with my motorola flipside, i already have pdanet, a usb cable connected, moto phone portal and i can get on internet on laptop

Dell uses it own wireless utility ..

  1. Open the Dell wireless Utility and uncheck the box at the top that says "Let this tool manage your wireless networks". You may then need to open Network Connections, right click the Wireless connection and select Properties, click on the Wireless Networks tab and check the box next "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".
  2. And then try to connect again ..

Un able to connect the Wireless access point, from my laptop. It is showing up in "view Avialable Wireless Networks" and it is not getting connected when I say connect

The solution is to remove (Uninstall) the Dell WLAN Management software this removes the device as well. Then Reinstall the wireless card with the Drivers ONLY. (It seems the DELL software doesn't work properly with the DELL branded network card in a DELL Laptop; go figure)
When you download the driver it will unzip and try to install automatically; but this will only reinstall the offending software again, so you must cancel the installation after you unzip the file.
When I searched for new hardware again it found the device as a Broadcom wireless card but could not install the drivers. This allows you to click Update Drivers and point to the 'drivers' folder in the location that the files were unzipped to. Once the device driver alone is installed the wireless card works immediately and finds any available networks.

The company will have to set you up on some sort of a VPN network. Either shoftware on the computer or a hardware VPN from your house to their offices. I would speak with their administrator, as this will all have to be controlled from their end.

Reallyyour internet connection being up and connected is your part. There is nothing you need to do to your equipment to make this work, its all in their hands.

Do you have any firewall installed on your computer?
If so, try disabling it. If it doesnt work, keep going.

does your modem have a green light on the "internet" or "activity" status? if not, you have a problem in your modem.

hope it helps.

Can't connect to AT&T VPN

I'll need to know what router you're using, make and model, for more specific help, but sometimes there is an option for IPSec passthrough. For example, on my Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G, there is a set of buttons under Security/VPN that are entitled IPSec Passthrough, PPTP Passthrough, and L2TP Passthrough. Since I don't know what router you're using, I can't tell you wether or not your router supports such functions or not, but if it does, you need to enable them.

Netgear WG602 wireless router, Connection Local only !

What I think is you unplgged them at the wrong times.

Do this:
(in this order)
  1. Turn off the router.
  2. Turn off the modem.
  3. take out all the Ethernet cords from the router, EXCEPT the one coming from the modem
  4. Now turn the modem on.
  5. Wait for the lights, then wait about another minute for it to settle.
  6. Turn on the router, make sure the Internet,Lan,Wlan, etc lights are on and functional if it doesn't display a light let me know.
  7. Now depending on what your wireless network (SSID) is called try to connect to it. Go to Start>Network>Click Network And Sharing Center at the top>on the left select Manage Wireless Networks>now click add, if your network is already on the list shown select it and click remove otherwise click "Add" click "add network in reange of this computer" select your network name and click connect.
Now tell me the errors, like if it says connection limited,etc...

Thanks,
Cam
